See Qvale's 4th foul...forced him to sit down during the big N Colo run...

OptimusPrime said:My bad, didn't know I was posting "smack," I was just mystified how being in foul trouble severely limits your ability to rebound. It certainly limits what you can do on defense, but saying foul trouble is the reason why two 7 foot tall players weren't able to rebound is stretching it. As I was told as a young'n playing basketball, "there is no excuse for not rebounding." Loose ball fouls on defensive rebounds aren't exactly called a lot on the defensive team. Carry on.

Selvig and Qvale were both called on defensive rebounds...carry on.
and, that my friends, is the truth.....they can still make a showing in the NIT..I think it is time to move on...UM lost to No Colo. two out three.....make more shots and you win...they didn't...next...OptimusPrime said:Okie Dokie.mlbowl said:OptimusPrime said:My bad, didn't know I was posting "smack," I was just mystified how being in foul trouble severely limits your ability to rebound. If you want to blame the refs for making them timid on rebounds, that's fine, but I'll say for the last time, the bottom line is that this game should have never been close. Good teams overcome bad reffing. Griz were the superior team and couldn't put NoCo away after leading for 75% of the game. They shouldn't have been in the position where the reffing could make the difference. They have been by far the best team in the conf and it seemed to me they ran out of steam at the end. I'm sorry there were bad calls last night, but you can't let it dictate the game. It sucks, but they couldn't get it done at the end.

I believe that's better than our season average for 3-pointers...Selvig's our best outside threat  ...the inability to get the ball to Qvale was a bigger factor than outside shooting.

And if the NAU game was called fairly UNC wouldn't have even been there.

i just think fans like to put way to much emphasis on officiating. i would be willing to bet anything that tinkle and his staff today are much more upset with how the TEAM played, and the COACHES coached then they are about how the REFS were.

100% accurate. I can almost assure you not one word has been spoken by the team or the staff about the officiating. But plenty has been said about areas where the team could have and should have done more.
But I'm not sure that changes the discussion that the officiating was one-sided enough to have a serious impact on the game. I think it's reasonable to say that UNC gained an unfair advantage from the officials without saying that the officials "cost" the Griz the game.
So their poor shooting, lack of rebounding, and inability to put away an inferior team after leading for most of the game wasn't the reason they lost? Come on people!SeaGrizluvr said:EverettGriz said:i just think fans like to put way to much emphasis on officiating. i would be willing to bet anything that tinkle and his staff today are much more upset with how the TEAM played, and the COACHES coached then they are about how the REFS were.

I don't believe that for a second. I believe Tinks had a heart to heart with the team about how they deserved to be going to the big dance AND how sorry he was that that chance was so blatantly taken away from them. And then I believe he would turn it into a basketball and life lesson. You will never convince me he just NEVER brought it up. It's part of the game(no more evident than last night) you don't just ignore it. Especially with the utter look of disbelief on Cherry's face on his 5th foul. That smile was a knowledgeable look of "Wow, we just got the most homered ever".
