Appy Moving On Up...And Georgia Southern...

If the Griz move up, get used to what you saw in the Syracuse game. It's good to dream, but you also have to be realistic.

I'm with Alpha, but I'll concede the Griz should move up now on a couple of conditions. 1. NO WAC under any circumstance. IF Montana can join the Mountain West, I'll take that and the ass beatings that will come with it. 2. The rivalry with the Cats remains intact. 3. Chris needs to close EGRIZ. Can you imagine the irrational babble on here during the "growing pains seasons"? IF those two things can happen, I'm all for it at this point. I hate to lose Appy, GSU and yes, NDSU will be gone sooner than later. And it's not like the griz have won a chipper recently anyways, so maybe it is time to go.

Random thought.....would you still do it IF, the Sun Belt created a Western Division?

Up go NDSU, MSU, UM, UI, SDSU and NMSU

Divisions are:

Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Louisiana-Lafayette
South Alabama
Troy
Louisiana-Monroe
Arkansas State

Western Kentucky
North Dakota State
Montana State
Montana
Idaho
New Mexico State
Texas State
South Dakota State

Of course James Madison is still in play, and maybe a few others. Some of those teams probably move on CUSA or maybe MWC eventually also. And yes the odds are remote....or are they?

Play division foes once a year, and 2 per year from other division.

As Thomas Wolfe suggested, You can't go home again.

Another version: “You can’t go back to Pocatello.” :)

“The origin of that delicious adage was recounted to me long ago by Jonathan Daniels, once press secretary to F.D.R. While in D.C. during World War II, Dick Neuberger, later an Oregon senator, pointed out a former senator from Idaho, Worth Clark, and told Daniels, “Somebody ought to write an article, ‘You Can’t Go Back to Pocatello.’ That’s his hometown.” Daniels asked why he couldn’t go back. “They just can’t. They come down here to the Senate or something. Then they get beat. It isn’t easy to go back and practice local law and lead local lives.” Then another old man, Jim Watson of Indiana, who was majority leader of the Senate under Herbert Hoover and was defeated but stayed in town as a lobbyist, walked by their table. “You can’t go back to Pocatello,” Daniels said.”

Interesting article, I didn't know Humpty Dumpty was from Great Falls...when one factors in the wind it makes total sense!

On a side note, because of the move, Appy will not be in the playoffs for the
FCS next year. Interesting.......

The WAC?...Yeah, let's talk about the WAC, now morphing into a none football basketball league. One not-to-be-named poster who believes we were so so smart not to join that early trainwreck misses one gigantic fact - Utah State, Nevada and Boise State, all of whom were in the WAC, are now in the Mountain West Conference - a MWC that has just executed a profitable deal with ESPN... Anyone clueless enough to resurrect the old, old, old baseless folk story comparing UM with Idaho clearly has no idea what he or she is talking about. Idaho remains the number one D-1 sad sack anomaly and I'm loathe to name again the half dozen oft -repeated reasons why the Vandals remain in the crapper... It's always been about leadership and ambition - none of which we could muster when the WAC was falling all over itself trying to entice the Griz to join up. Look where we could be now?...on second thought don't. It's too depressing.

So are you saying that if UM would have joined the WAC, then Utah State, Boise State and Nevada-Reno stay in the WAC and the Mountain West is the conference that would become a basketball-only league? Is that what you are implying? Because if you are, then that is pretty far off-base. Since that while the WAC was begging UM to come to the league, Boise State and Nevada-Reno had already committed to the MWC, while Hawaii would announce not long after that it was going independent in football. UM joining the WAC would not have kept any of the dominoes that fell from falling in the WAC, and instead of a twosome (Idaho/New Mexico State) looking for a football conference, Montana would have made it a threesome. And not the type I would have wanted to partake in...

Perhaps he is saying had you joined the WAC quite a while ago you would have been a better candidate to be invited to the MWC.

Now there is little expansion going to happen in the west and if it does the MWC will probably turn to texas or perhaps Cali. Of course they might have done that anyway and there are no guarantees that being in the WAC would have gotten UM a MWC invite.

Appy knows going to FBS is better for the university overall in many ways. Losing the playoffs probably sucks but there are ways it pays off for the university, including better regular season matchups and in what Universities you are associated with. I guess Appy and GSU have decided that overall FBS is a better deal for the university overall

I look forward to those semi-final games under the lights against Western Oregon....
I thought the FBS was going to split? When is that scheduled to happen? Any day now I suppose.

already happened. Money and scheduling has been split in favor of the top 5 conferences and BE was squeezed out. FBS split is done but they are not leaving the NCAA.

Appy and GSU moving to join the middle group

If we had joined the WAC years ago, we'd be sitting alright at this time.

If winning championships is all that matters, why not move down a division. Should be able to those teams every year.

Who gives a flying fuck about the scats? Shoulda left them in the dust years ago. Montana can not support two big time programs.

App State's lone goals for the year: Beat Montana and win the SoCon. Gonna be a sad 2013 for them :D .

ASU's 2013 season will be left in the dust compared with the long term benefits of moving up and out...

It's worked great for Idaho, Marshall, Texas State, ...

Marshall would be unknown had they not moved up, and probably wouldn't have had some of of their more famous alumni.. like Byron Leftwich or Chad Pennington. Texas State just added on a sweet expansion to their stadium.. yeah, they're kicking themselves now for sure. Even Idaho is sprucing up the Kib, and has a top notch weight training facility. Ours can't even keep water out from the rain.
