App State's lone goals for the year: Beat Montana and win the SoCon. Gonna be a sad 2013 for them :D .

ASU's 2013 season will be left in the dust compared with the long term benefits of moving up and out...

It's worked great for Idaho, Marshall, Texas State, ...

...and Boise State...Bringing up Idaho, already mentioned ad nauseum, id's you as being severely :lame: Marshall holds their own and the ink isn't yet dry on TSU's year old move to the FBS.

Thank god they moved up and left us with our peers PSU, ISU, EWU, SUU and UND.

Actually from an academic standpoint UND is probably a peer, and perhaps ISU. You'd been better off including UNC.

Have you ever seen a game at Nottingham Field in Greeley :?: I have - several times. We'll give you a pass and the opportunity to rethink your comment after you have...

Titleist - your point about Marshall is well taken, but aside from Leftwich I would say that most of their famous FB alumni arrived and played when they were 1-AA prior to moving up (Pennington and Moss included).

Have you seen the school of welding's facilities at SUU? Or the extensive body shop repair facilities at Eastern? Think before you type man!!.

Actually I'm not a fan of moving up, I just like throwing rocks...

ACADEMIC peer.....I'll give you a chance to rethink your comment. AND I was dissing them, saying to include them rather than UND....who is more a peer.

If we had joined the WAC years ago, we'd be sitting alright at this time.

If winning championships is all that matters, why not move down a division. Should be able to those teams every year.

Who gives a flying f*** about the scats? Shoulda left them in the dust years ago. Montana can not support two big time programs.

We have winner who just hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, Montana can only support 1 big program. If the state wants to compete at the highest level, this is the reality of the situation in Montana. I would research model of Nebraska and Wyoming to determine what is best. I would honestly support 1 competitive at the highest level, regardless if that were in Bozeman or Missoula. I would be every bit as passionate.

The other option would be staying pat and going down. Sorry, it would be hard for me to get on bored to not moving forward. I would still pull for success and follow the programs, but not as passionately as I do now.

I'm with Alpha, but I'll concede the Griz should move up now on a couple of conditions. 1. NO WAC under any circumstance. IF Montana can join the Mountain West, I'll take that and the ass beatings that will come with it. 2. The rivalry with the Cats remains intact. 3. Chris needs to close EGRIZ. Can you imagine the irrational babble on here during the "growing pains seasons"? IF those two things can happen, I'm all for it at this point. I hate to lose Appy, GSU and yes, NDSU will be gone sooner than later. And it's not like the griz have won a chipper recently anyways, so maybe it is time to go.

Random thought.....would you still do it IF, the Sun Belt created a Western Division?

Up go NDSU, MSU, UM, UI, SDSU and NMSU

Divisions are:

Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Louisiana-Lafayette
South Alabama
Troy
Louisiana-Monroe
Arkansas State

Western Kentucky
North Dakota State
Montana State
Montana
Idaho
New Mexico State
Texas State
South Dakota State

Of course James Madison is still in play, and maybe a few others. Some of those teams probably move on CUSA or maybe MWC eventually also. And yes the odds are remote....or are they?

Play division foes once a year, and 2 per year from other division.

Would be an interesting idea..WKU is probably going to join CUSA though so maybe replace them with with UNI, Illinois State, Cal Poly or UCD.

Obviously that league would only work for football. For Olympic sports maybe something like this...

NDSU-SDSU
Montana-Montana State
Denver-NMSU
Idaho-Seattle
Texas State-UT Arlington

I doubt it would ever happen but I wouldn't mind it if it did.

Oh and FTC. I couldn't give a warm bucket of squirrel crap about them or what they do. The Griz moving up, staying put or doing whatever...why should we worry about "keeping the rivalry intact"? Lame argument. (No offense to some if the decent cat fans that post here. :thumb: )

I just read all of the posts here and it is really nauseating... Can someone summarize this for me in a format so I don't get another migrane...?? :puppy:

Within a few very short years, UM and MSU will have no business being in the Big Sky. You already saw it with Basketball. WSU and UM were head and shoulders above the entire conference... and it's been like this for quite some time now. Nobody was close. and we didn't have a big man.... and were missing key people a lot of the year.

I get all the reasons to not move up... I get it. But since when was there no risk in taking on a challenge and setting the bar higher?? There is always risk. At some point, we're either going to make the courageous move, or we're going to get passed up. We're an attractive program/school for these conferences.. for a lot of reasons. We have the success (in many sports), the tradition, the fan base, etc etc. to make it happen. And honestly, for the health of our program, I think the change needs to happen at some point. Remaining thnever is a good thing. :thumb:
Eastern Washington has passed Montana in the past couple years....The Golden Goose might be dead..

Now for something to really raise your blood pressure all the while shouting heresy...Like or not, since Waded Cruzado became MSU's president the Cats have closed the gap with the Griz. Other than bringing a substantial stadium addition online in record time the most important factor working in Bozeman is attitude. Saddled with a UM prexy who advocated putting football on the shelf for 2013 there's increasing reason to wonder if it might not be the country cousins who would lead the way into a new competitive conference - dragging UM with them. What once seemed a pipe dream may have legs... Laugh at your own peril, but the Cats now have 4,000 more seats, better winning stats and a far more aggresive group of alumni and financial supporters than the Sunbelt bound Vandals. The last two years of D-1's musical chairs have proven that nothing is impossible...

You boys better wait and see what happens with this team this year because had we joined the "big boys" like many of you wanted us to, we wouldn't have won.a.single.game. last year. And I do not have enough faith in MD to believe this year will be that much better (I pray I am wrong) which, in the past, I would've believed would leave us in the hunt for a new coach at the end of the year but, I do not believe RE gives a rat's ass about this team or what kind of seasons they have and so we will be stuck with MD until he retires. Also I would be AMAZED if Tinkle isn't out of here after his son graduates. Plus with the current BOR athletics is going to drop, way, way down the list of priorities. All of these things make me very concerned about Griz being able to compete at the level they currently play at much less how they would compete if they were to join the MWC.

The cats had no where to go but to close the gap. I'm of the belief that every program in the BSC that improves ultimately helps the Griz.

The problem is, that most of them (including the cats, frankly) are still far behind the Griz. Yes, the cats have cut the Griz domination in the state considerably, and good on 'em. But they still trail UM in season ticket sales by 8 or 9 thousand, they still trail in football revenue by close to 2 million, and they've had two successful season, while UM has had 2 and half decades of them.

Still a ways to go.

And can someone point me to any objective sources that shows Engstrom was considering shelving a football season?

Extremely unlikely, but if Cruzado, the former Executive V-P at the other new Sunbelt member - New Mexico State - made a preemptive strike to explore possible FBS affiliation, wouldn't that tie Ol ' Royce's panties into one huge knot :?: Yeah, I would say so...
