Anyone want to discuss a griz coach, player or recruit in depth?

Sdk.catfish, thanks for your posts. The point of the thread is to try and promote a discussion of of the griz. Remember there are no wrong answers. Were your feelings hurt because you are a Jensen guy and I made the prediction that Sneed would start? And that’s okay. I’m not saying Jensen is not a good quarterback I just think that Sneed is physically and probably emotionally more mature then Jensen and that’s just based on there respective ages and life experiences. I think that is one of the factors that will play into selecting who is the 1. Oh and we are trying to promote participation and input, so when you suggest to someone you might not agree with, in this case me, to not post if you don’t have anything to say, that may have a chilling affect on people who might want to post but now maybe intimidated to. Please keep that in mind, but hey thanks for your participation.

Well I guess thanks for posting, but we were hoping for a little more depth in your analysis

Dutch, could you explain the depth of your analysis other than watching some 2 or 3 year old videos. Are you really an insider or just a troll?

I was responding to signedbewildered’ “shake the feeling post” which I’ll be honest I thought was pretty light. Although he might have been having a bad day, there should be no wrong answers on a message board only our opinions, everybody has one lol. My analysis is just based upon the information available to everyone else. I don’t live in Missoula so I haven’t seen practice but I’m gonna got to the spring game. So I guess nobody has a lot to work with because of the social media ban on commenting on what’s going on there. I don’t know Hauck or any of the other coaches, so no I’m not an insider. I’m not trolling, but I believe the qb competion is the most intriguing thing we got going. It’s pretty obvious that Jensen is the fan favorite and Sneed is perceived as an interloper. I don’t have a favorite. It’s just my opinion that from what we got to work with and what you can glean from the comments from the staff that Sneed is their guy. Am I stepping on some of you Jensen guys toes here? Well you have to break some eggs to make an omelette right lol. Thanks

Not stepping on any toes. I was giving a counter point and simply debating your take on Sneed.Take it or leave it... The best QB will win the job, so nobody's opinion on here matters too much anyways. We will find out soon enough.

Sam, you're a consistently great poster on this board. I wouldn't worry about it. I think what Dutch Lane III, Jr. needs is just a slight push to achieve autofallatio.

Here is my problem Dutch. Just what pray tell do you base your opinion on other than age, which is meaningless in my opinion, regarding their (note that when referring to people it is not "there") emotional maturity. Did you factor in grade point average, IQ, coaches references, parental influence.... etc. What research have you done on either's "life experiences". The answer is zip because you haven't done any basic research and many of the factors that would make one or the other the "dude" are not researchable. It will come out on the field. I'm for a fair fight and the best man for the job wins but at this point you have no evidence that can back up your contention that respective ages and life experiences give Sneed the edge. I think it is best for all of us to let this one go and wait until the fall. Sure would help if better spring drill information were available so we don't have so much speculation going on.

Of the knocks I had on Hauck, one was he consistently could not pick a QB for the life of him. I've always believed if you have two QBs you don't have one and he struggled with that in '09.

When could Hauck not pick a qb? Don't recall that.

But isnt the whole point of a board is to speculate and give our learned opinions and pontificate about our football prowess, are there rules here at egriz that I don’t know about? What I meant by life experiences is Sneed is over a year older then Jensen, he got recruited to a BCS school played a year transferred, played at a jc got recruited again and is now on his 3rd or actually fourth coaching staff and third or fourth offensive systems. So yeah I think hes got quite a bit more actual life experience then Jensen, who was redshirted then took over last year, that’s what I would define as overcoming diversity, Sneed has had to hang in there and grind and fight to get where he is, so yeah I think that makes one mature. I also think he sees this as a step down for him which I presume is a huge confidence booster, he knows he could play and did play as a true freshman at UNLV and played against bigger, faster and more athletic guys then he is going to see in the BSC. Jensen has had a very stable progression getting to where he is which may or may not be a positive when he’s fighting for the 1 against Sneed, who seems to be scrappy and has an alpha attitude. Jensen strikes me as more laid back and not as aggressive as Sneed. Why do you have a problem with any of this, it’s a message board, is it because it also hurts your feelings that I am of the opinion that Sneed is the staff’s 1 and you are a die hard Jensen guy? If you don’t like the thread then change the channel. Thanks for posting though.

I don’t recall that either. PR were you being facetious when you posted that you were disappointed when you were moved to defensive back in college or did you really want to play linebacker. I was talking to my brother the other day about ivy football and I cant remember the year but I remember a sports illustrated cover with Ed Marinaro in a bright red Cornell uniform , I think it was the year he was the Heisman runner up to pat Sullivan in the early 70s.

The first half of your paragraph is fine. However, what gives you the assessment that Jensen is laid back and that Sneed is scrappy? Jensen showed a lot of toughness last year. It's fine to be a fan of Sneeds and to think of him as the better QB. Where I'm challenging you is on the reason. It seems like a lot of your reason is based on speculation and from highlights. Sneed needs to be much much more accurate than he was in JC, which was against much slower and less athletic competition. Can't have a 7/11 TD/INT ratio in this league. Jensen will also need to improve from last year and step up in bigger games. If Sneed proves to be the better player, he will start and I'll be happy with that. I don't think anyone is showing as a die hard Jensen guy, just disagreeing with your assessment.

That’s what I would like to find out from you what did you mean in your post. It had nothing to do with Sneed. Should I be insulted by your comment about me? And if it wasn’t meant as an insult what were you trying to convey?

I have no dog in this fight. Jensen has already shown he can play at this level. I don't know anything about Sneed or the Juco he went to. Maybe you know something I don't about the Juco he was at.
I wouldn't assume that that he he faced slower and less talented competition. Juco's like east Mississippi and Arizona Western are faster and more talented than any team in the Big Sky. If the Juco he went to is anywhere near those two I wouldn't put to much weight in the stats.

Yes, I was joking. I wanted to play corner in college. I was 5'11", 177 when I got to college. Too small for backer. The frosh backs/secondary/smaller backers were all lined up, given a pitch and told to run through cones and try to get by a tackler. After the play, a coach then yelled out "offense" or "defense", and I was assigned to defense. That was my only run in college.

I played against Marinaro within a week or so of his being on that cover of SI. We beat Cornell in Hanover. The game was the "largest" college game on television that Saturday in terms of the regions/viewers, and had the no 1 ABC announcing crew. We won 24-14. I recovered a Marinaro fumble, and had a big hit causing an interception. I ran down Marinaro from the opposite cornerback position as he scored on a 46 yard run. As we got up, I shook his hand and said I hope he wins the Heisman. He should have. We became good friends later that year. Hung out at the Hula Bowl when he was playing and I wasn't. I went to Nassau with him and his Cornell buddies for spring break. Have been good friends ever since. He is now Marty Daniels on the Netflix show, Blue Mountain State, and known to the younger crowd. I arranged for him to speak to the UM team after a summer practice last summer when he was in Missoula, but his plane was delayed 10 hours and missed the practice. A few guys joined us at the Depot Deck that evening. Strahm has a photo with him that was put on his Facebook.

How about the ENTIRE 2009 SEASON?

Are you referring to the year (2009) when we were undefeated until our final game vs Villanova, which was the title game?
That doesn't look like a coach struggling to pick a QB, it looks like a coach that knows how to win games and came up 2 points short in the last one.

Listen, I appreciate Hauck's attention to detail, his utmost respect and understanding for the program and its history, focus on toughness, ability to hold players accountable, capacity to get the most out of his players, emphasis on special teams, and aptness in requesting respect from his players. I've been a fan since I went to my first game in '93 and know what Hauck did to continue to elevate the program to its current level of expectation.

But, to sit and act like because they made the national championship (while going away from everything that was working in that first half) implies Hauck could not possibly do any wrong is ridiculous.

If you're too blind to see that Hauck clearly was in a two-QB system for the entire 2009 regular season then I can't help you any more than a screen door on a submarine.

Maybe it looks like a team that was so talented they could overcome their coach being unable to clearly see that Selle was superior to Roper. You think of that?

I agree Marinaro got robbed. After seeing that si cover I started following him growing up on a ranch in Madison county and only got one channel and then finally two, but the Vikings games were broadcast in our area so watched him whenever they were on. Then I think he played his last season with the Seahawks. Was really good on hill street blues for a footballer turned actor.
Really good stuff. Thank you

About the Jensen - Sneed competition. All I know is it will take a hell of a good QB to beat out Jensen for the starting roll. If Seed is the man to do it, we're in god shape at QB. And even if Sneed starts at the beginning of the season, that doens't mean he will be the starter at the end of the season. We have two quality QB's with each bringing a little different skill set to the team. That is a good problem to have.

Go Griz!
