4 Candidates Emerging

Remember Mike Shelton? He was one of the other Griz with Colman the night they broke into that house and pistol whipped a man before jolting him with a stun gun and binding a woman with duct tape?
Maybe you forgot. It was seven years ago. Shelton was a transfer from Arizona. He had been committed of a crime there, too, but he wasn’t one of those “lower qualifiers” like Playerep says Eastern Washington uses to gain unfair advantage. Shelton was a upper qualifier thug. Either Hauck never bothered to check Shelton’s criminal record, or didn’t care. Either way, Shelton skipped off to Montana to play football without completing his sentence in Arizona.
Hauck didn't stonewall the press over the pistol whipping, stun gunning, burglarizing and kidnapping. He gave it to them straight.
He said (according to ESPN): “We talk about off the field conduct on a weekly basis, and have for the past five years. Whether or not the players choose to listen is up to them.”
And that’s cool because you can’t name a coach that hasn’t had a player(s) arrested. All a guy can do is bring them to town and coach ‘em up. I'm sure Missoula was comforted by Bobby Hauck's handling of the off the field conduct stuff. He even had a bonus clause in his contract if his players stayed out of trouble. I'm sure he got it.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the UM job is Bobby Hauck’s for the taking. 8-)

Hrmmmm.....Guess I hadn't thought about that. EWU fans always talk about Adams bailing for the NFL so this will have them really worked up. My GUESS is if Baldwin is talking to us he is just as serious about using (the interest) go get the attention of FBS as he is in the job here. Who knows?

lol. Nice try stretch. I've never once seen a post on any board where an EWU fan thinks Vernon is going to the NFL. Nice hopeful optimism there

Hold on, this shouldn't take long there is only like 6 threads over there since the beginning of season....

Oh, here's one, but not the one I was looking for....

"Vernon Adams could be next in line of small-school NFL QBs"

http://www.bigskyfans.com/eagles/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3078" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry got sidetracked reading the "SUU forum is a graveyard" thread. You have no idea how comical of a thread that is coming from The Dead Zone

Oh here is another by our dear friend......

Re: VA out 3 to 6 weeks with broken foot

Postby Screamin_Eagle174 » Sun Oct 05, 2014 4:24 pm

Silver linings: our schedule is much more favorable for the next 3-6 weeks, with not a single offense that compares to the strength of UW, MSU, or ISU's. Also, this increases the likelihood that VA doesn't leave early for the NFL by 1000%.

Yeah, you can stop now. We ALL KNOW those kids were on Bobby's plate. But we ALSO remember Marc and Schann and Colt and Chase and Selle and Ochs and Swoggs and Mike Ferriter, Cody Balogh, Ryan Featherston, Tyler Joyce and about 200 other kids BH recruited to play at UM, all of whom have their degrees, were outstanding student-athletes and are great ambassadors to the University of Montana, Missoula and the entire state. How come THEY don't count>?

Remember when Andrew Swank and Tremaine Johnson were investigated for assaulting fellow student Grady McCarthy? And Bobby tried to cover it up by refusing to talk about it? Then he shouted down some kid reporter from the Montana Kiamin? It all turned into a self inflicted wound for UM as ESPN and then Sports Illustrated ripped Bobby for being a big douche bag? Who wouldn't want more of that?

Not true. McCarthy wasn't a UM student at the time. The incident happened in March. The Kaimin matter arose in September, after the 2 players didn't play the first game. I liked how Hauck dealt with the Kaimin. They were the douche bags. There was no investigation, and no police involvement. A newspaper did a story. By the way, I knew what was going on the whole time, as a McCarthy relative worked for me at the time.

4. Baldwin: I think Kent is ALOT more interested in him than he is in the Griz. No doubt he's intrigued, but I just don't see him leaving VA in his senior season.
Why? Are they having some kind of affair?

I'd love to hear that conversation with the wife:
"Baby, I'd love to double my salary, move you to a nicer house in a better town with better, well, everything. But I gotta stay for VA."

There would be no doubling of salary. From Googling, it looks like his base pay is about $113,000 (maybe a bit higher) and Delaney's is just over $162,000. Not even a 50% increase.

Great day to be a beagle~ "lol. Nice try stretch. I've never once seen a post on any board where an EWU fan thinks Vernon is going to the NFL."

More from The Dead Zone.....

"there's an outside shot VA could end up on an NFL roster if he has another strong year in 2015, In the case of VA, I can pretty much guarantee he will be playing next year. Look at Garrapalo, Armenti Edwards, Flacco, Romo, all those guys played for 4 years in college. ."

"I agree, that's what gives me the hope to see him back. Just seems that leaving early is becoming more and more frequent at the FCS level."

"If Baldwin and crew leave this year, might make sense for VA to take off as well..."

"I'd love to see him play his senior season, and set records so high in the FCS, they may never be broken!"

You're welcome. I could go on copy and pasting from your board but it's cold and lonely over there. I can see why you like it here.

Re: Hauck/Baldwin in Griz HC talks?

Here's what I know:

Haslam went to Cheney last week to see Baldwin.

One of the only boosters that matters wants Baldwin, as does Haslam.

Bobby Hauck has been calling and texting said booster as well as everyone that matters for weeks. He resigned in order to pursue this position.

Several other very influential boosters have said if Bobby isn't the guy, promised funding will not come through.

The only two candidates for that job are Baldwin and Hauck. The other two are just a formality.

Well as long as McCarthy wasn't a student at the time. That's what really matters.

Hey Playerep,

Remember that time Tim Parks was arrested for pointing a gun at a woman’s head while slapping her around? That Tim was a great defensive back—you know on the field where things matter when you’re talking about hiring a coach? Besides, the woman owed Tim money, we never found out why, but it was probably for shoveling her sidewalks or walking her across the street or something real upstanding. Tim surely sat through enough of Bobby Hauck’s off the field conduct speeches that something sunk in. Bobby is a motivator.

But later, after staying in Missoula long after his welcome wore out, Tim and fellow former Griz Andrew Badger got all tangled up in a convenience store robbery. The cops accused the robbers of beating a victim in the head with a baseball bat. Fractured the victim’s skull.
Former Griz Andrew Badger was charged with felony robbery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.
Tim must have learned something about how to treat a victim after getting busted for putting a pistol to that woman’s head. He just got charged with tampering or fabricating evidence.

Remember that time JD Quinn got busted for Drunken Driving for the third time? He racked up drunken driving charges in three different states. The third one in Montana. Bobby refused to talk about it. And later when it looked like DUI 3--one shy of a felony--might cost JD a couple quarters playing time in a cupcake game Bobby Hauck refused to talk about that too.
Now that UM's past is behind it, I'm sure there's no reason not to bring back Bobby Hauck.

You are such a liar. You are really bad news. By the time Quinn left UM, he had one DUI total. A nolo plea. Had had a .02 or .03 baby dui prior to coming here.

I'm surprised he's still there if that's an accurate salary, he'd be crazy not to look around after their recent success.

Remember that time Greg Colman got busted for aggravated burglary, aggravated kidnapping and conspiracy to commit robbery? Greg was a beast on the field--you know, where things really matter when it comes to hiring a coach? But Colman was a bigger beast off the field.
Bobby Hauck found Colman after the bruiser was kicked off the team at Iowa State because he floored a cop while fleeing arrest.
Bobby Hauck knew all about it, but there was one thing Colman wasn't. He wasn't one of those "lower qualifiers" like PlayerRep says pump up the program at EWU.
when the cops came for Colman, they met the Griz team bus as it returned to the Adams Center after the Idaho State game. Bobby Hauck, his assistants and the traveling team got a front seat to the whole thing. It was almost like the cops were sending a message they didn't want the Griz to miss.
Bobby Hauck must have got that message loud and clear if the Griz job is his for the taking.

You are so full of misinformation. Coleman was in good standing at ISU, when he came to UM, and was thoroughly checked out in advance with multiple coaches. Yup, bad incident, Coleman was stupid, and he never played another down for UM. By the way, most of those guys involved didn't end up with felonies, and most didn't spend anytime in jail either.

I would think that, if Kent was even going to interview Bobby, he must have cleared the possibility of hiring him with Engstrom? Wouldn't he?

The more I consider that, the more I feel that it's just UM paying respect where they feel they have to for obvious reasons (most notably his record here, his overall connectedness, and the fan/booster support).

I hope he's getting a fair shake regardless, but I just have the sense that they feel he needs to be on the short list to avoid backlash. Hope I'm wrong.

Again, you are just making up stuff. Shelton didn't have any legal problems in Arizona. And wasn't involved in the pistol-whipping stuff. Non-players and a former player did that.

The backlash will come if Hauck isn't hired. He has the support of all of the top athletic donors, or virtually all of them. In fact, he and some of his assistants are very good friends with most of them.

That makes more sense, they got a few bargain years from him without a doubt.
