Hilarious reading these comments supporting the 3-3-5 defense. Anyone with a clue about building a great college football defense, knows that stopping the run is mission #1. And they also know that teams employing the 3-3-5 defense do so ONLY because they are unable to recruit enough great D-linemen, and LBs to employ a defense which can stop the run. Depth at these two positions is essential, and none of these 3-3-5 teams have much quality depth at these two positions. TCU plays in a weak conference, which features strong offenses, much like the Big Sky. Lots of spreads, lots of passing. However, when TCU has to play a great running team, their 3-3-5 will be exposed just like ours was against MSU and NDSU.
To compete for a national championship, you have to emulate the other teams who are good enough to compete for national championships. And no team running a 3-3-5 will win a national championship, at any level. Watch and see for yourself. Take it to the bank! Why is it so difficult to understand that the top teams in both FBS and FCS do NOT run the 3-3-5 as their base defense?
