Your Sports Credentials?

Won my first cake walk competition in grade school. Found out in subsequent years that was more luck than talent. However, excelled at kickball and was always picked first, except on cupcake day. That was my mom's fault but this isn't really about her. Although it took several tries in Jr. High and High School I finally won the annual lutefisk eating contest during Winterfest my senior year. Youth sports were mostly a disaster. I was QB and MLB in 5th and 6th grade, until everybody else seemed to get a lot bigger. Was a baseball SS and CF those years as well, but couldn't hit a curve. My favorite sport was hockey, and battled mom for years to play. She thought refusing to buy me hockey skates would keep a guy with figure skates off the ice. I thought I was out of luck until the neighbor's mom backdoored the crappy baker by giving me her kid's outgrown skates and gear. Damn, I thought this wasn't going to be about her. Anyway, played hockey for 15 years through college, although college was a club team with only $500/year subsidy from UM for the entire team. The highlight of those days was playing the cops in Spokane when we could goad them into waiving their league's no check no slap rules. We avoided charges for our rough "play" but my degenerate teammates' post-game drinking at the Viking set a lot of guys up for the Schick. I do have a campus rec champ t-shirt for bowling which was earned. One of my teammate's ' girlfriend's best friend's boyfriend didn't know Ferris but was a UM walk on in football, and is where my great knowledge of college football was derived.

Back in ‘82 I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile. All I know is I could throw a football over them mountains. if coach had put me in in the 4th quarter, we’d have been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. I’d have gone pro…I’d be makin’ millions of dollars and livin’ in a big ol’ mansion somewhere…

Went to a small class C school and played 6 man football (QB and Linebacker), basketball (Guard on offense and Forward on D) and track and field (Triple jump, high jump and javelin). Realized I wasn't good enough to play any sports at UM so I found a new sport. Won two military national championships in cycling and got invited to the Olympic Training Center. Used to race with Levi Leipheimer and the father of Tejay van Garderen who both competed in the Tour de France and other professional cycling events.

Outside of that, carried a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification while I personal trained alongside Lance Dreher and Vinny Comerford.

I'm now into Badminton with my daughter  , as she is on the HS team.

I played no sports in school, but was a star chess player in the school chess club, winning 90% of my matches, and being elected All-Conference. I still hold the school record for the most times chosen-last in gym class. I was required to attend special help sessions to be able to identify the different balls used in school sporting events. I was voted "most unlikely to succeed" my senior year.

I thought your dad was the coach. Were there mountains in eastern MT?

Hard to figure which way the stolen valor runs here. You were first, his username has ostensible dibs, but you’re a veteran. My brain is pretzeled.

It’s quite the conundrum. If he was TRULY Uncle Rico, he’d have posted it early in the first page of the thread—and he’d have gotten the quote right.

I’m just sayin’…..

I vote for AZ. If you've ever met him, he's an Adonis. Totally could throw a football or that punk Rico over a mountain.

Representing the Northern C?

I was the best chess player on both the HS wrestling team and the club boxing team. I was also the best wrestler and boxer in the chess club.
Had over 80 amateur boxing bouts in twelve years, competing in both junior olympics and golden gloves, won more than half of them. Twelve years of wrestling, both freestyle and collegiate. Baseball was by far the most fun sport to play.

:thumb: Yes. Power High Pirates!

My credentials? Let's just say one day my number will likely be retired and displayed in a Yahoo! Fantasy Sports ring of fame.

Grew up playing soccer. High School varisity football coach pulled me aside after a JV soccer game (was playing JV as a Freshman), and convinced me ( 6' 4 260lbs ) that the gridiron would be a better chance at playing at the next level. Found the weight room and played just short of 300lbs by the end of senior year.
Offers from the Griz and Bobcats disapeared after my grades dropped my senior year. (still was offered PWO by the Cats by the Big Human), financially settled on the NAIA route with 3/4 scholarship offer from MSU Northern (Havre). Played college ball OL weighing in @ 315lbs. We were horrible. (program was dropped earlier and I came in the 2nd year of it being brought back). Beyond that I suck at photoshop and produce lame memes / graphics on here.
