Your 2014 football schedule

CWU isn't quite the DII power it once was. Went 7-4 this season with a third-place finish in the GNAC and no playoffs. Went 7-4 and missed the playoffs in 2012 and went 4-7 in 2011. I believe the 2009 season was the last time they made it to the DII playoffs. Next season they will also be breaking in a new head coach. If that game isn't a blowout, I'll be stunned.

They also had an all world QB the year they almost upset the Griz.

Every QB looks all-world against the Griz in recent years. :|

Not the power they once were and finishing 3rd in the conference kinda reminds me of Griz.. Just sayin.

The only thing bad about playing a drop down like Central Washington is that absolutely nothing good can come from it. If they beat us, we are like MSU. If we squeak by, it hurts us badly if we're on the playoff bubble. If we win decisively, we gain nothing.

Other than that, it could be an entertaining game.

Other than the fact that the second- and third-team members get into some games for some needed experience.

I agree that's normally the only positive thing that comes out of a DII game. But with Central Washington, it's hard to tell. They could pick up some quality drop-downs during the off-season and give us a helluva run for our money, which would mean not as much experience for the second/third-stringers.

What happened to a Portland State game in Portland? I thought that 2014 was the rotation for that? Bummer. I always look forward to that road trip to catch up with old friends. It is a great party there.

Not having it doesn't bode well for revenue for PSU football in their "make or break" year either.

1Griz-fan, yeah, you know how it is, Montana has COMPLETE CONTROL over their Big Sky schedule. Boycotting Big Sky home games will REALLY SHOW em' And BTW, I'm pretty certain if the UM can draw over 25,000 for freakin Oklahoma Panhandle State, they'll be just fine for back-to-back home games against Central and South Dakota in September. But please, bookmark this and remember to PM when your ticks go up for sale. I know plenty of people who will take them off your hands for that almighty TOP DOLLA :thumb:

My biggest complaint is the drop down game. I understand the Griz athletic department has a tough time getting FCS schools to come here since there are not many West teams but why a drop down every season.

Who said anything about boycotting Big Sky games, I just make it up to roughly half and pick the games I think will be most competitive and worth the price of admission and not many look to be that great to me. I am sure some of the lower tier teams will give the Griz a run for their money next season. South Dakota pretty much beat the Griz in everything but the final score so they will be a tough matchup and may be one I will travel for.

Also, I realize how the conference scheduling works, it's the nonconference schedule and price of tix the Griz do have control over. Feel free to spend $60 per seat for Northern Colorado.

60 bucks for UNC is highway robbery and I go to the games. If rolls royce thinks football fans will put up with this going forward it doesn't bode well for MT football down the road.

Yeah, well Central Washington's AD fired the football coach five days before fall practice. And despite that, CWU finished 7-4.

With the severe budget pressure Haslam will feel from Engstrom, these are unlikely to go away. They may get worse (MSU has Black Hills St. this year) before they get better. Generally, the worse the OOC opponent, the less the cost to bring them Wash/Griz. Cent. Wash. is about as good as a dropdown is going to get.
