I'm not saying stats are end all be all... if you read what I said then maybe you would see the point. Fact is he hasn't done NEARLY enough to prove that he is "the best qb the FCS has ever seen." Fact of the matter is he won championships in college with the best team in the FCS. That's what he has proven. EVERY one of the other QB's I named provided higher stats in college but they didn't win all the championships. Any of those QB's would have won just as many champs with NDSU as Wentz did. Also careful with your "5 championships." He played decent time 2 of those years so he won 2 champs.
And you make it sound like Wentz was the only one to be injured and if he wasn't injured he would have shown up everyone...when in reality even our QB, Gus, was on pace for higher stats before HIS injury so...that said let's be careful about "clear front runner" claims.
Na he won 5 championships. Either way you want to spin it, he walked away with more rings than any QB to ever put on a Griz uniform. He pushed Brock Jensen to the max. Jensen never ever would have been the QB he was without Wentz. Don't really care how much he played. He was a member of the team. NDSU is successfull because every player prepares as if they are a starter. He was very integral to winning as a team. You should check out some of the comments made by the coaches the last few months.
Somehow I don't think Gus was on pace for 15 rushing TD's nor was he ever even mentioned as a serious Walter Payton front runner. He was pretty inconsistent IMO. Had one good game against a very inexperienced NDSU defense where he completed a ton of 50/50 jump balls. Looked completely lost the following week and looked horrible in the playoffs.
Not saying Wentz is the greatest FCS QB ever. That honor likely belongs to Brock Jensen as he won more games and championships as a starter in FCS /D1AA history.....but as a prospect when you consider the combination of size, arm strength, athletic ability, intelligence and character, Wentz is clearly the best NFL prospect as a QB that the FCS/D1AA has seen.
