Obviously he is a great player but even comparing him to Flacco, Romo, Fitzpatrick, Simms, McNair is just straight up ignorant and way too ambitious. He could be great but it is way too soon to tell.
You will never break records playing QB in NDSU's offensive system, but what you will do is learn an offense that helps you a ton in transitioning into the NFL. Carson would also be the first person to tell you he gave zero f***[*] about breaking records. He did everything it took to win and walked out of there with 5 national championships. My cousin plays on the team. He said that even after Wentz went down, he was the first guy in the film room and last to leave. He was an incredibly special player. I saw that guy do more pre snap than 99% of QB's do in college. On top of being physically gifted, he is extremely grounded and very intelligent. 4.0 lifetime student and scored a 40 on his wonderlic. Two time academic all American. Most of the guys who flame out in the NFL do so because they are mentally weak or just plain stupid. I don't see that with this guy.
As far as stats go, he was on pace for a gigantic season this year and was clearly the Walter Payton front runner before he went down. If you had projected his stats out for a full year, he was on pace to throw over 3,500 yards, pass for 35 TD's, Rush for 630 yards and 15 TD's.
I'm not saying stats are end all be all... if you read what I said then maybe you would see the point. Fact is he hasn't done NEARLY enough to prove that he is "the best qb the FCS has ever seen." Fact of the matter is he won championships in college with the best team in the FCS. That's what he has proven. EVERY one of the other QB's I named provided higher stats in college but they didn't win all the championships. Any of those QB's would have won just as many champs with NDSU as Wentz did. Also careful with your "5 championships." He played decent time 2 of those years so he won 2 champs.
And you make it sound like Wentz was the only one to be injured and if he wasn't injured he would have shown up everyone...when in reality even our QB, Gus, was on pace for higher stats before HIS injury so...that said let's be careful about "clear front runner" claims.
