Worst Coaching Job in UM history

BWahlberg said:
BTW - worse coaching job in history? I mean, ok - have you seen every Griz game? I can think of many other worse coaching jobs, even a few in just the last 10 years, 2007 vs Wofford and 2003 vs NDSU come to mind.

Those two were bad. That said, I hope the Griz learn to keep the foot on the gas from here on out. Go Griz!

So tell me how the coaches caught the ball and ran in bounds with 5 seconds to go? How do the coaches tackle the opposing players, or how the coaches defend the pass with one of the best receivers in the country. If you think you can do better than turn in your resume Monday to Haslam....
They don't. But they sure as hell ca call at other play besides zone read play after play

I'm not sure how to reply to a specific post but this is to Wahlberg. No, hiring Haslam did not cost us the game tonight. The question is, what will he do from here on out. I realize this remains to be seen and I shouldn't have assumed he won't do anything. Let's just wait and see but something has to be done. A number of people have commented on specific things that went wrong, including yourself. When you take them all together they add up to a whole lot of big problems.

Lets see how the season plays out, if the team totally crumbles (which I doubt) then yeah lets see what Kent does.

Brint and Other Griz Backers:

Whether Delaney is a good or bad coach is not the issue. The issue is that he is a short term answer. A "stop gap" coach, nothing more. For the long term health of the program, KH will need to make a decision on Delaney at season's end. The events of the last six months are now history and it's time to move on. This season is irrelevant. The top three responsibilities of a NCAA D1 coach are-

Recruiting
Recruiting
Recruiting

Take away Delaney's game gaffs for now. How is he going to recruit after this season is over? With one year left on his contract, how successful will he be, from December to February, at bringing in top talent? That is why KH will be forced to either let Delaney go after the season or extend his contract( God Forbid). There really is a much bigger issue than the "game day" coaching.

Worst ever - 2000 vs Hofstra at home (Joe Glenn's first game). We lost 10-9 in what was by far the most "WTF ARE WE DOING ON OFFENSE?" I've ever seen.

Didn't Glenn let the OC go right after that game and replace him with Cockhill? I'm pretty sure I'm remembering that right, since the next game we put up 45 vs Idaho, then 53 vs Cal Poly.

Too bad we cant show Gregorak the door...

a class in college fundamentals of coaching defense...one of the principles is, make the defense repect and cover the totality of the field field,,in our case , throw it vertical once in awhile, even if there are no completions....then they at least know we have a "go 9" route in our playbook.........on another subject, just because there are people that post on here 23 times vs. someone who has 2300 posts doe not mean that the 2300 poster is a genius....maybe they should do more listening and less posting....the guy with 23 posts may know what the speak of...

Gregorak is a very good coach. Stop being such an idiot.

Anyone who thinks this was worst coaching job in history, or even was a bad coaching job, shows me that they don't have a clue about the game of football. We should start a section for the who's who of dummies on the board, and get your names up there.
This. Eastern got out coached and were beaten badly on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

When you run for 400 yards and are consistently getting 7 yards per carry, and eastern can do nothing to stop you, why in the world would you go away from it?

Griz offense racked up 533 yards, erased a deficeit and delivered a two score lead with a managable amount of time remaining on the clock. Can't ask for much more than that.
The defense is another story. The defensive shells the Griz are using present many opportunities for the opponent's offense to move the ball. That doesn't get any better by going even softer. If you're on offense you throw underneath it and pick up 5 to 9 yards a completion. Or, you target the point behind the shell that's the equadistant between the cb and the safety. You can take either defender with you, the other one cannot get there quick enough to help. Sometimes you'll win because the offense pressured by you defensive front simply cannot complete plays even to relatively open receivers. But good teams have a way of keeping their cool and completing plays under pressure. Better get used to it.

Yes, you are right. His name was Ron Richards, and that was the last time a Griz head coach made a decision with some balls regarding his staff. Hauck knew he and assistants were un-touchable here, hence the reason Phen and Paulson have since been demoted @ UNLV.

I don't know Delaney, but just judging from his nice guy demeanor, I don't think he has it to tell Gregorak to get his defense on track. Maybe he does. PR- You had him over for braised short-ribs the other night (which I heard "taste like a dog's asshole")......How is his demeanor?

UM gave up 182 yards passing in the first 3 quarters, and 171 in the 4th quarter. While it is very difficult to think fast enough to do this, unless you have been told or thought about it prior to the play, our corner should have intentionally pass interfered on the long pass to Kaufman on the goal line. A 15 yard penalty and automatic first down, would not have hurt us at that time. Kaufman is 6'5", has good hands, and very good and very fast. Our corner was in pretty good position, but was giving up 6 inches, was behind or on the side of Kaufman (which is where he should be), and had no safety help. A very tough play for a d-back to make.

If the team makes it to the playoffs and makes some noise there, it could end up being the best coaching job in UM history.
