Will Griz players kneel during the national anthem?

Soldier. You know I respect you. But, it does matter. Plenty of my military friends have made that clear.

We run in very different circles. Most I know couldn't care less. A few absolutely despise those kneeling...

I am in the couldn't care less crowd.

This topic is simply toxic. There is very little middle ground it seems.

Personally, I don’t care who kneels. It has zero impact on me. It doesn’t impact my Family or well being. It doesn’t directly impact the men I lead in hide positions or forward operating bases in complete shit holes around the globe. It doesn’t prevent them from excelling. Most of them could give 2 shits about kneeling.

It reminds me of when don’t ask, don’t tell was being repealed. Oh, the doom and gloom. Remember?

Most in the service gave 2 shits about that as well. It just didn’t / doesn’t matter. Over-hyped, over-covered, and over politicized.

Who cares.

Soldier. You know I respect you. But, it does matter. Plenty of my military friends have made that clear.

As a retired Naval Officer, I agree 100% with Soldier’s post, even the DADT stuff....totally over-politicized BS that doesn’t mean anything at the end of the day.

Have you all ever been to a Griz game? The players are nowhere near the field when the anthem plays. This is stupid.

Worth reading & to me a sensible solution.

It is not legal or possible to start a game without the national anthem. Adrenaline will not peak before the ending notes of the national anthem.

I spent to many years in uniform defending what the flag represents.

You must be furious that they all stay in the locker room, many probably sitting during the anthem then....

Are we talking to ourselves in here?

...maybe this is the way to handle this...if they are going to be kneeling and disrespecting the flag don't give them
that platform to do it...keep them in the locker room!

And, alternatively, allow those players who wish to exercise their first amendment rights to come out of the locker room and kneel. *Those who want to disrespect the Constitution can stay in!

*This statement was added to highlight how idiotic the "disrespecting the flag" comments are. Personally, I'm strongly in the "IDGAS camp" with Solider Griz. But I find statements like yours so ironic that I can't help but point them out.

...rather than not playing the anthem...
...play it at everyones job..before work...
...have someone march in with the flag...
...why just for sporting match peoples job...

... :protesst: ...

Irony is pontificating about what the the Bill of Rights protects with little apparent understanding of how the constitution works. Given how incorrectly civics have been taught since the 60's its not surprising...

I'm confused. Are you suggesting the First Amendment doesn't guarantee the freedom of expression? And if you're suggesting that freedom doesn't apply to the flag, may I suggest familiarizing yourself with West Virginia State Bd. of Educ. v. Barnette, which codifies that very issue.

When players kneel during the anthem, what are they “saying”? Are black players communicating something other than white players?

I’m serious with these questions. Not joking.

Aren't they both highlighting the inequalities (real and/or perceived) in our society? I don't believe their messages are different, no.

Stephon Tuitt is his own man. He is communicating loud and clear his stance.

...that is a great question because I really don't know why they are kneeling for because the anthem should unify
us as a people..as a country knowing the young men that died ( civil war 600k plus ) to bring us all under one
nation ...I thought this is what Martin Luther King wanted...so to me it's a lack of understanding that people
have of our history and civil rights...obviously our history is not taught so people have distorted it...

maybe they want to wipe it clean to create another one? ...but hey I'm just a white guy!

And that’s the whole problem in one sentence.

Maybe they're just saying that although we're taught that we're unified and treated equally, we're really not.
