Who could the griz even get as a new coach?

Matt Lubick
Now THERE is an interesting prospect !

Former Oregon offensive coordinator, and current Washington co-OC / wide receivers coach Matt Lubick, received a two-year contract from the university through January 31, 2019, per a public records request made available Tuesday to Rivals.

The contract length aligns with every other assistant since Chris Petersen took over at UW, with the long-time assistant receiving a higher salary than former receivers coach Bush Hamdan.

At 45-years old Lubick will receive a base salary of $475,000 each year, $128,600 less than he made in 2016 in a similar role at Oregon

Whereas, according to the squeaky wheels around here, this program is total garbage, has been run into the ground, and is on the front end of a long, painful decline;

And whereas, the prediction is that booster dollars are going to stop flowing, fans are going to stop attending, and Division 1 caliber recruits will not want to play here;

And whereas, due to the abysmal outlook of Montana Grizzlies football, not one even remotely qualified human being would be interested in extinguishing this dumpster fire of a program;

Now let it be resolved, that there are exactly 0 qualified candidates that could possibly be interested in coaching the Griz.

It's all over. Dismantle the whole thing.

Right on...a new coach is going to have to bring in a new game and that means a couple years of not so good results. It is rare for a new coach to succeed immediately. It happens but not as much as people think. And, most places, i.e. JMU, NDSU, pay a lot more than UM does. So, unless a guy loves the scenery I doubt UM will be the goal of an ambitious and successful coach.

How does msu's salary compare to UM? How did they get a guy with ambition? I think we can get a good coach.

Bob Stitt was one of the lowest paid coaches in the conference, MSU has more money not less.

Montana and Montana State's coaches get paid almost the exact same. The base is almost the same and the incentives are almost the same. Their contracts are public information

Still. I don't consider Choate to haven proven anything yet. That is not the qualtiy MT needs. That would be a regression

That's a huge question at hand....we didn't have mind blowing candidates the last search and I wouldn't expect any mind blowing, proven coaches this go round either. It's probably wishful thinking to think any FBS coordinators would drop their 500k salaries for a 200k salary unless they desperate want to be a head coach. So then what candidates are left? I think many just assume coaches are chomping at the bit to coach here and I don't think that's the case. I'm not thrilled with the results of this staff, but I also see the potential in their youth and what they are HOPING to build. Not sure if they will get there. Also not sure a change won't just set us back another 3 years which really would be the dagger IMO. Therein lies the problem.

I think at this point I'd be okay with Stitt at the helm but some key changes to DC and special teams. I think that's a fair and smart compromise
Or you take a chance on a sub-coordinator FBS candidate like we did with BH and like MSU did with Choate. It provides a short cut for them vs. being buried among layers of candidates to move up in FBS.

Youth? Stitt is 53.

When I said youth it was in reference to the young players who look solid.

If there was a solid one similar to that, I'd be open to it. My biggest fear is starting over and being mediocre for 3-4 more years. I don't think the UM can afford for that to happen...literally and figuratively

I think that will happen no matter who is chosen. It seems UM is on a downhill slide on many fronts.

Was just wondering why you are wasting your time here just to talk about "UM being on a downhill slide" and "I don't feel so good about UM. It was bad enough when Engstrom was there. This is a new low as far as I'm concerned." Why waste the energy. Go get laid or something more enjoyable.

Probably complaining about the water being too cold and your drink being too watered down to really enjoy it.

Solar heated and full. Don't drink and enjoy my life enough to not get worked up trying to insult a person a thousand miles away that has an opinion different from your own. That is simply sad.

As paid by the university, yes.

You would rather just insult an entire University because you disagree with not renewing a coaches contract.
