Which town do I stay in for Griz vs Beavers?

I'm sending out the Griz Paw for help. I'm traveling over to go to the game against Oregon State and I'm looking to book hotel reservations. I'm planning to arrive Friday and leave Sunday and would like to catch a competitive high school football game on Friday and see a little or Oregon either Saturday before the game or Sunday. Which towns between Portland and Corvallis are the best for a 2 night stay?

Your help is appreciated.

I would recommend staying in and exploring Portland, Corvallis or somewhere on the coast rather than a town in between Portland and Corvallis. High school football isn’t as big as some other states either. Oregon is probably under represented when it comes to college football players that played high school in the state. Cannon Beach is a nice town on the coast west of Portland and Newport is one west of Corvallis.

I'm not sure what the high school schedules look like or the program rankings, but looking at the 24/7 recruiting site, the class of 2027 top 6 recruits in the state play for the following schools:

1. Josiah Molden, DB, West Linn (Oregon Verbal)
2. George VanSandt, TE, Central Catholic (Arkansas Verbal)
3. Jasiah Agnimel, WR, Lake Oswego
4. Kawai Chamberlin, LB, Willamette HS, Eugene
5. Josh Christensen, Edge, Lake Oswego
6. Malachi Garlington, WR, Adrienne C. Nelson HS, Happy Valley

West Linn, Lake Oswego, and Happy Valley are all Southeast suburbs of Portland.

McMinnville is a nice place to stay. It's about an hour from Corvallis and is wine country, if you're into that sort of thing. Lots of good restaurants and airbnb/vrbo options.

The other option would be somewhere on the coast. If you haven't been to the Oregon coast, it is a must see. Great beaches, stunning cliffs. Lots of great seafood places and fun bars. Somewhere around Newport would be a pretty straight shot over to Corvallis....I think about an hour, depending on the weather and traffic. Again, I'd look at Airbnb's and/or VRBO's.

Newport is awesome! Heading out there this month for 5 days to golf. Great restaurants and the beach. A bit of a drive, but worth it. The Hallmark hotel is sweet.

it depends on what you’d like to do with the limited time you’ll have.
Depending on kickoff time, you’ve got a shot at a rare double as Oregon is at home against the viks and Eugene isn’t far from Corvallis.
That said, I-5 can be a bit of a nightmare on football saturdays.
There are plenty of wineries in the valley if that’s your thing.
Newport is a straight shot, probably an hour’s drive. Cannon Beach, while a really nice town, is on the north coast, you’ll be in your car a lot if you opt for that.
Newport is okay in my opinion but drive the coast highway either north or south of there for beautiful views and more interesting coastal towns.
I’d probably stay in the Corvallis area, Albany isn’t far and might have more cost effective options.
Silverton was the 5A (6A is the largest classification) champ last year and about an hour’s drive ne of Corvallis.
If you really want to see a large classification hs football game, your best bet is in the Portland metro area; Lake Oswego, Lakeridge, West Linn, Clackamas are perennially top programs and all in south suburbs of Portland so you’ll be safe from the antifa hordes 😉
If that’s important to you, consider in or around Wilsonville for easiest access to those burbs and I-5. On that note Wilsonville, Sherwood, Canby, and Oregon City have good, always competive programs…

Camas is an excellent football program in the Portland metro area as well even though they are in Washington. They have a newish bright red turf like EWU.

newport is a great place, just drive out to the coast from corvallis and you are there. i spent around yachats, which is south of newport, when i was a kid, it was a pretty cool area. there's also pacific city to the north, it has a kinda unique beach.

alternatively, you can just go to eugene, find 'a guy', and take a different kind of trip...

What happened to Jesuit? They were a football power in Oregon for awhile or am I mistaken?

There’s a lot more parity across schools and leagues than there used to be in the metro area. The public schools in the wealthier communities have had a lot of success as of late.

Central Catholic and to a lesser extent, Jesuit, are still metro powers but kids who’d otherwise transfer to those schools to play are instead ‘staying home’ or going to schools in the burbs like West Linn, Lake Oswego, Tualatin, or Clackamas.

These have become the perennial powers in 6A

Was an excellent program…they’ve fell on black days over the last several years. Still haven’t gotten over the departure of their winningest coach ever, Jon Eagle. After a one year stint at Portland State, he took his talents to West Linn and promptly won b2b state titles, almost three-peated before retiring last year.

Camas plays in Doc Harris stadium on ‘traditional green’ turf…Cardon Field which sports red turf is their practice field.
