When will the Griz get a Prukop or McGhee?

When will the Griz get overrated quarterbacks who crumble when it counts? Hmm.. tough one. Not sure I want one of those.

Considering the continuing concern about the quality of Griz QB's, drove home the imperative priority of grabbing the right kids. It also made me wonder how the CATS retrieved such QB gems from the dry plains of Texas. Dakota Prukop and Darius McGhee in particular. A little research revealed MSU's assistant coach Demo Odems, former HS coach from Austin recruited Prukop. This confirmed what a couple posters to this board suggested. Selles was a great choice to be QB coach; intelligent, creative and can recruit the Billings area. Certainly makes sense. Question is who/what determines where the Griz recruit from? Have they been successful, and what changes with the beginning of the Stitt era?

Your own Justin Gaines sent us McGhee

Prukop was recruited to be a safety by FBS schools, but we offered QB

BTW... I love the talent of Prukop and McGhee, yes they would have been awesome in the griz back field.

But they were not so who cares...

Why such animosity and mocking vitriol for a 78 year old Griz fan?

I hear you, Stan. They sometimes give me some guff, and I'm just a poor 104-year-old son of a turd farmer. I'm sure these big city posters from Red or Deer Lodge have all the answers, but guys like us should have a voice.

How'd your crop turn out? Mine was all wet and sticky this season. Wanna get together and share a bowl of Jello?
Just curious, what did you think of that Lindbergh kidnapping trial?

You can certainly use this criticism of McGhee, but it doesn't apply to Prukop. When did he ever crumble when it counted?

Maybe in some parallel universe where we have someone who can coach at this level, an O line, good special teams play, etc. In short, never! :x :x :x

Good post Kyle, Prukop is a beast and I have yet to see him "crumble" in a big game. He's literally the only chance MSU has to win a football game the last two years, and at this point, they've won more than they lost so yeah. I also liked Dmac, but I thought JJ was a much better all around QB than DeNarius. I think anyone calling out Jordan Johnson is absurd. He left his guts on the field for UM, and is statistically one of the best Griz QB's of all time. Pretty sure that speaks for itself.

Roughly the same time the cats get a defense.

Off topic...has that ever happened here?...but I have to admit I couldn't stop watching the Cat game because I had to know if PSU would really score a TD on every drive except the fumbled one...that would have been a memory for life...too bad they took their foot off the gas in the 4th.

The criticism might have been a little harsh of Prukop (because his numbers are certainly good), however, I don't think that in his year and a half of starting for the Cats he has what we could call a "signature win." No wins yet over a team who will be, or has been, in the playoffs.

True, but that's not because of him. He has made 17 starts for the Cats and 11 times they have scored 40 or more, yet the team is only 6-5 in those games because its defense is horrendous. Assuming Portland State makes the playoffs, Prukop will have an 0-4 record against teams that made the playoffs. But in every one of those games the Cats have scored at least 40. He's done his part.

Yep, laying the lack of defense at the feet of Prukop is sheer ignorance. Even when he is playing "badly" the team is putting up 40 points +...that not a bad bad in anyones opinion except those who only see maroon.

Or the W-L column.

Wish I had paid more attention to the name mentioned in the LA Times, today. They made a very positive report on the present QB from Lawndale H.S. that now has only two offers...one from Eastern Washington, the other from Montana State. The kid was a real sleeper until this year and last week against Crespi HS, a perennial Calif power, he ran for for 100+ yds, and passed for 3 or 4 tds....I suspect, he is being looked at by PAC 12 and Mtn West recruiters as of today.....he is 6'4 and @225.....
