When will the Griz get a Prukop or McGhee?

Ursus1 said:
The only McGhee that Stitt is looking at is a 5'6" redheaded kid from Dublin. Stitt likes him a hybrid tackle/slot receiver . He never played American football but won a Madden Playstation tournament by going on 4th down every possession.

Thanks for your courage in putting pen to papyrus to proclaim what most of us believe to be true. Can you believe this guy and his going for it on fourth down all the time? Why can't he just punt it like Mick or one of the old school Butte coaches? I've had enough, I tell you. I want more punts! I heard these two guys talking yesterday and they both agreed that Coach Stitt must have some kind of head injury or something.

Creative, all-inclusive V-8 "thunk" to the Little Generals green cap.

Once upon a time an offensive minded coach would even punt on 3rd down occasionally. His name was Don Read...oh and by the way I think most would agree he made Griz football a feared team and also National Champions. Time and place for going on 4th and punting....Stitt needs to look a little more closely to those decisions....and what helped win the 1995 championship ? Fieldgoal and yes they still give you points for those

Better question is how do the Eags get the QB's they have gotten over the past several years? Seems to me UM had better be looking at competing for some of the QB's the Eags go after.

How do we compete with the eags when all we've got is a Div II coach? I'm with ursus on this! :x :x :x

I'm just gonna come right out and say it: punt on second down! Don Read was a pussy!

That's not as crazy as it sounds AWF. If the defense is the strength of our team this year, why not focus on trying to get them 100+ snaps a game?

This might have legs, I think of the Ravens defenses about 10 years ago, they should have punted on first down every time before Flacco fucked it up...they could have scored enough defensively to win most games.

I wonder if there's a graph somewhere...hmm?

Had one used in the wrong offense in JJ. Pflug has a lot of those same abilities. When will the cats get a Dickenson?

I loved the last sentence. My favorite comment in the thread.

You speak the truth Ursus1! Ahh the good old days of smash mouth football with 5 wide. Who thought that Coach Read would go undefeated and win the National Championship in his first year in 1986! The little general has to go!! He'll be lucky to be .500 in the conference his first year. UNACCEPTABLE!

Same with the 85 Bears D.

great point. Stats clearly show that if you don't get a first down on first down you probably won't get one. Griz don't need a Prukop or McGhee, they need a Lulay. If the Griz had a Lulay, on the rare occasion they don't get a first down or score on first down he could just roll out and if the 1st down isn't guaranteed just roll punt it. Slam dunk every time.

Talked to the coaches tonight. They indicated that when UM gets the 4 schollies back from the ncaa, UM will be able to offer Prukop and McGhee the opportunity to transfer. So, after next year, we may be able to get them. Finally, some definitively answers and not the speculation and drivel coming from some of you. Nice thread topic, Stanley. I'm impressed.
