You can sit there and literally watch it count up. In about 30 seconds I watched it go from 900 to 923. Is 5,000 a reachable goal? Of course you know the opposition will still put a negative spin on this.

Hard to say, I ran a petition a few years ago with large support on here and across Griz Nation and we had to really push to get to what we finished with, 1260.

lol well damn, should've checked it before I posted that, almost at 1600 and not even 24 hours old!
It’s almost like the other petition pissed people off, like a lot.

From Patrick Burke this morning...

The University of Montana holds a special place in my heart and I have defended it throughout these years despite many decisions with which I strongly disagreed. However, my trust in and loyalty to the university were betrayed this past week by the decision to hire Bobby Hauck as the football coach.

I believe many faculty, staff and alumni share this feeling of betrayal. Bobby Hauck, more than any other person, was responsible for the culture of impunity with respect to sexual harassment and assault by athletes that led to a federal investigation, the firing of multiple high-level university employees, the precipitous decline in student enrollment and the widespread perception that the university was unsafe for women.

That he has now been rehired clearly reveals the priorities of this university. The gladiator football culture that values winning no matter the cost is clearly more important than the educational mission of the university.

On the day he was hired, the university announced the termination of 30 lecturers dedicated to the education of students. It is unclear how many more faculty and staff will be terminated in the near future. The recent completion of the obscenely luxurious Washington Grizzly Champions Center merely reconfirms where the university’s priorities lie.

There have been heartening reports over the past year of a rapid cultural shift in the treatment of women. This has led to the recent removal from positions of power of many high-profile men who have engaged in sexual misconduct. Clearly, this long awaited and much-needed cultural turning point has not yet reached the University of Montana.

I ask that Commissioner of Higher Education Clay Christian refuse to approve Bobby Hauck’s contract and that our new President Seth Bodnar clearly state that educational excellence and a safe learning environment for all students are the guiding values of this university. Only then can the long, hard task of restoring confidence begin once again.

I have not seen one iota of proof that the football program was to blame for the sexual assaults on campus. Only 1 player was involved in any of them, the rest were not associated with the athletic dept or had nothing to do with Bobby Hauck. Bobby should be able to sue them at thi point for defamation. He flatly tries to equate / accuse Hauck of being a sexist or committing an promoting assualts. Garbage journalism.

a 'victim mentally' ..it's time to move on..welcome back BOBBY!

Was just over there ... out of curiosity. The counter had just passed 1,800 and while I was on -- maybe 10-15 seconds -- it hit 1,825. So you still sit there and watch it rolling.

I just glanced a bit ago and saw Jordan Tripps name roll by around 1800is AND a name I recognized as a very sought after Scat in state recruit so I snooped around for a minute and found it was the father of this young man. I LOLed.

My relative, who lives in Mississippi and who played for the Griz, just "signed'. If Tripp has signed, I assume a bunch of the other guys of his vintage, including the NFL guys, will sign soon.

"Egriz goes Moveon.Org" Who knew? Suppose it won't get to MB, tho.

Keep it rocking folks. We are approaching 2000 signatures! Can you believe it.....2000 sigs in less than 24 hours!

Mr Haslam is aware of it and appreciated it being brought to his attention. Thanks for sharing this and supporting it!

Griz Nation! This petition was launched just under 12 hours ago and we have already hit 1300 signatures! You guys rock! The key to keep this going is to keep sharing it. Use FB, Twitter, have your spouse sign it, etc.

I intend to deliver this to Kent Haslam and to make Coach Hauck aware of it as well (I beleive they may be aware already!) and also to possibly send to Missoulian and Kaimin just to show the actual support (we will cross that bridge when we get there). Keep this going and keep checking back for updates! I would think we could get to 2k sooner than later!

EDIT AND UPDATE: MADE IT OFFICIAL. PLEASE CLICK ON LINK AND SIGN IF YOU WAMT YOUR SUPPORT FOR COACH HAUCK TO BE HEARD
Altho I support BH's return, I don't think this petition is a fair sampling of opinions re: the rehire. Why?

Because it samples a different population than the faculty. This petition should be circulated among faculty, and not the general population.

True. But! Who affords the faculty to remain? Were there to be enough public outrage, the BOR would be forced to intervene. Tenure is tenuous with strong leadership and a rebellious following. Just suppose the student senate were to actually speak up; what about a boycott of classes and perhaps a strong statement by the Dean of Students. Work within the system to effect change, as this petition is doing now.

Missoula did not deserve the book nor did the athletic departments of either state flagship universities truly deserve their public portrayal and subsequent public humiliations.
