Vim's 2018 Montana High School Football Recruiting List

My feeling on Pepe from what I've read on Skyline, Missoulian and his twitter activity is that he's more of a Cat fan but they never offered which kind of was disappointing for him. I just kind of wonder if MSU does come with a offer if he'd flip or not.

Got that impression as well. He's said that the Griz were "his best offer"....not necessarily the one he wanted.

I'm okay with it though, I'm betting that once he joins the team he'll be all in and enthusiastic about it. It's okay to feel unsure about the next step. Hope he has a great senior season!

I guess I wonder why a former Griz player sends his players to little brother...

Because he is a good coach and teaches his players sound football that allows them to be successful at the next level, but also allows them to grow up to be men and make the decisions that they think is best for them.

Oh I agree...was just pot stirring last night.

Watched Drew Turner this past Friday, wasn't impressed. He runs straight ahead, doesn't make anyone miss, in my opinion no way a big sky running back. I believe you have him rated too high, Frontier Conference type running back. I also hear the Cats withdrew their offer.

I think he can be very productive at the Big Sky level maybe not all Big Sky but he can contribute. He runs tough, has some speed and will only add to his frame. He's a good Montana prospect, but hey we are all projecting a few years down the road. However, hard to say no way Big Sky caliber at this point. Just look at last year with Montana Tech's Sarceni. He could have started for a lot of Big Sky teams.

Agree that he may be able to contribute as a special teams player and carry the ball a few times a game, but just don't see him as a 15 - 20 carry a game guy in the Big Sky. Because of his speed, I believe he is a partial aid Montana kid. Definitely not one the top 2 or 3 recruits in the state.

The Cats likely withdrew their offer because they received a commitment from a 3rd running back recruit this past weekend. That likely means they had one spot open for a running back and it got taken. Just to be clear, the Cats were never going to withdraw an offer from Turner based off talent. This is how the game is played with early commitments. That is why kids have been committing much earlier the past few years. There are usually time ranges on an offer being open to a recruit. Turner is still, by far, the best RB in the state and the best since Andrew Grinde.

By the way, the two best players in the state so far in 2016 have been Gabe Sulser and Nolan Askelson...both of Billings Senior. They are dominating every game.

One thing you need to realize with Glacier this year is that the offensive line and quarterback positions are not what they have been in past years. A relatively inexperienced group, they will need time to develop. Know Bennett is experimenting with different players and formations to offset this glaring weakness. In the meantime, I have watched two of their games and from what I heard from those in attendance in Bozeman this past week, you are seeing the other teams in pack it in with eight man fronts, and throwing a lot of CB blitzes because Glacier is so one dimensional. Turner had a much better season last year when to they couldn't key on him. This year, a whole different story.
Hopefully, for Turner's sake and rest of this talented group of seniors, they get turned around sooner than later. I watched Lex Hilliard throughout his high school and college career. Turner is every bit as talented as Lex was at this point of his career. You can't coach speed, and you can't coach size. Turner can easily carry another 25-30 pounds and be the battering ram so many on this site have been begging for. I wouldn't pass on him just yet.

This... when given room he is doing well

Yeah this would make more sense. It would not be prudent to give 4 schollies to running backs in one class. I have to wonder if that makes a commitment sooner more likely for the Griz. What other offers are there? Can Turner afford to wait if his OL is a little less this year. Griz have offers out to other RBs as well.

I like the Turner commitment, and I like the comment above that you can't coach speed and size...

Should be a great Griz.

regardless of what list the two local experts come up in their final analysis,,,,it would be difficult to dispute that the griz are owning the state (406) this year.

I'm not an expert but the Griz have received commitments from several of my top kids in the Montana Recruiting Class of 2018. The recruiting year lined up well for the Griz in-state with Sulser being the top prospect and Nick Germer being a Top 10 kid right away. Those two were going to be Griz unless an enticing FBS offer came Sulser's way. Drew Turner (recruiting circumstances aside with the Cats getting commitments from three other prep RB's) was a big get for the Griz because of their need to develop a between-the-tackles running back. He was also high-up on the Cats list so, despite getting commitments from other backs prior to Drew committing, the Cats still wanted Drew to be a part of their future backfield. Garrett Graves is just a talented kid that can develop at multiple positions and was a top priority recruit for both the Cats and Griz in-state. The Bobcats biggest get in my opinion has been Nolan Askelson who is doing a bit of everything for Billings Senior this year. He and Sulser are playing at very high levels right now. Here is my preseason Top 5:

1) Gabe Sulser - Griz
2) Drew Turner - Griz
3) Nolan Askelson - Bobcats
4) Nick Germer - Griz
5) Garrett Graves - Griz

As of right now, I don't see Sulser, Turner, or Askelson moving based off how they are playing. Germer is still having a solid senior season despite a broken arm suffered during the summer. And Garrett is looking better than last year at the QB position.

But after these five, it is a total crap shoot. It will be fun to see how everyone finishes their senior years. I have an updated Top 50 list on the Montana Recruits 2018 thread at Bobcatnation that I put together prior to the 2017 fall season starting. Howard's list is there as well.
