The facts seem pretty clear even without getting Stitt's side of it.

HS Coach advises Kid to "play the field" and decommit from the University of Montana in order to get a "bigger, better deal." Kid decommits and blames the "coaching change." Montana says "fine, it's your choice" and moves on.

Kid doesn't get anything else. HS Coach can't find any offers for kid. HS Coach starts calling UM trying to save his face. UM's moved its promises to other players who were "committed." HS Coach knows that how it works. No program has the time resources for dilettantes who can't make up their mind, recruiting season is ending, schollies are committed.

Kid's parents erupt on HS Coach. Good kid has nowhere to go thanks to genius strategy of HS Coach who assured them he knew how "this game is played." HS Coach goes into major CYA mode. It's UM's fault! Yeah. That's it! It's so bad, he's banning UM from the High School.

This was a story concocted entirely for internal consumption at the High Skool, where "Coach" got embarrassed by his own failed strategy, had angry parents calling for his head, and needed to blame someone somewhere else. It is C......S....

The facts seem pretty clear? None of this is mentioned in either article. You can't just say things and then define them as facts. Reading through this after reading the article it's like most of you guys are just making up your own story and then a terrible game of telephone ensues. Keep in mind none of you have talked to the kid, the coach or UM about what happened. You're just creating a reality in your head. It's like this thread is schizophrenic

my god...this is big time college football
Really?

I think the fact that we've placed several players in the NFL the last couple years would suggest that yes?

Also you know when a coach drops a plug to Montana State that its desperation mode and UCLA aint sniffing around. He knew from what happened and what he had said about Montana being banished from the kingdom Carter that Montana State was the lowest hanging fruit for his now panic mode scenario.

I hate to burst your bubble, but we aren't big-time college football. We're phenomenal at our level, but big-time, Naw. And that's ok. Nothing wrong with that.
We are not phenomenal at our level we are clinging to be in the top 25.

Myopic Griz fans never let a moment to make us look bad go to waste.

I don't know what happened, but from my point of view if Stitt, after waking up one morning, drinking his morning cup of coffee while gazing up the Rattlesnake, thought to himself, hey...ya know I don't see how that DT fits....I don't want him anymore.....than called him and said hey kid, sorry but your schollies gone....I would be happy even with that story. He doesn't need an excuse to make egriz happy.

What makes me question the story is we still have the same DL coach, D coordinator and I presume D scheme. So, him fitting in with our new staff doesn't seem very plausible.

Kid decommits. Publicly blames coaching staff change.

Then suddenly wants to recommit, but it's too late and can't be done.

His coach goes on a rampage about it.

Now, why would a High School coach take a perfectly normal event -- his kid walked away from a commitment for "something better" -- and turn it into a major offense because he couldn't get it back?

The plausible alternative: Stitt was just a bad recruiter because he took a kid's decommitment seriously? HE BELIEVED HIM? And he's got some cocksure High School coach screaming at him over the telephone because ... of what? That the kid took the Coach's advice to decommit and the Coach didn't understand what that meant? And it's Stitt's fault? Or that the kid didn't take the Coach's advice, and that's Stitt's fault too, right?

Puleeze.

It doesn't take a genius to see what happened. It apparently does take a fair share of common sense, a fair share that some egrizzers didn't receive at the potluck.

it means that you are someone to avoid.
Your usual level of astute commentary makes egriz what it truly is some days.

Moronic.

Your continuing butthurt from being humiliated on the "JJ Trial" threads is obviously going to haunt you for the remainder of your days.

Good.

when I got there, I made the (common sense) decision to double down on the smoked ribs. They were delicious.

Here's all we need to know (granted, it's hearsay from the SB news - but it sounds like a direct quote):
Carter coach Alex Pierce said that Clark changed his mind when Montana underwent a coaching change as former coach Mick Delaney retired.

At this point, there is no longer a committment by either party.
And, there is no requirement for UM to "explain" why there is no longer an offer on the table.

Why is coach Stitt bound to a non existent agreement he had no part in making?

Yeah, the reason for Pierce's outburst is open to speculation, that's why I said I could imagine the scenario to which so many are taking issue.

Nobody is presenting that scenario as fact.

So do we know which happened first?

Did he decommit first, or did we pull his offer first?

Also, why are we putting this all on Stitt? Don't Coach Ty and the other defensive staff members primarily do the defensive recruiting?

This story is weird.

 You guys are in luck. I threw a rack of spare ribs on the smoker a little over an hour ago. Won't be pulling them off till around midnight but they're gonna be damn good and I have us covered for cold PBR. I'll post a pic in this thread when they're getting close to done (or you 'tards can just hop in the truck and hustle your asses over here to my place...still plenty of time).
