university needs to do better

Historically the noon starts have always had fewer students. But Saturday's numbers were a little baffling.

That said, I highly question whether putting a few posters up telling kids it's game day would've made a lick of difference.

Yah does anyone know if they're holding a viewing at the uc? I don't exactly remember but I feel like they used to do viewings in the uc for the cat griz away game

I remember a few years back when the University gave rally towels to everyone in the stadium for the Sac State game. I thought that was one of the coolest promotions the University had done, and the student section went nuts the whole game. It baffles me that the university hasn't tried doing something like that again.

Come to think about it, I don't even think that the University put that promotion on... I think it may have been a local bank or cellular provider that gave out those rally towels.

Most of the giveaways in the student section are by outside sources or the students themselves. I think it was last year when a couple guys kept handing out shirts or something like that. Pretty sure they were part of a frat. But yah games are boring for students. Little excitement no relatability and some students have flat out blacklisted the football program.

The university schedules all the give aways. They just get a a company to actually do the logistics. Last year 5+ basketball. Games had give aways and then both conf tournament games gave away t shirts. No way they can't do it for football. They just are not doing it. And for you ppl
Who think posters, signs and hype material are not the answer....well then you would be the firstperson to ever decide that gorilla marketing doesn't work .

"Communication, communication, communication! This will be the year where we tell the story of the university in full context, and in a manner that highlights the tremendous accomplishments of our people and the extraordinary contribution to Montana. The VP for communication ($150,338 base salary before incentives) will be charged with coordinating that work, and Peggy Kuhr is filling that role now. Communications includes the implementation of a new brand strategy that is under development through the work of Mind Over Media ($85,000 contract junked this year after poor results). We will see results of that relationship beginning this month" -- Royce Engstrom Aug. 24, 2012.

A dad wanting to take his kids to a game for the experienced (how I started 30 years ago) is a thing of the past.

I strongly disagree. Outside of Griz-cat, it's fairly easy to get tickets for any game. Even for the App St game I had buddies drive over on gameday and buy tickets at the ticket office.

Sure the university needs to do a better job but the recent decline in interest in the football team has everything to do with wins or lack there of IMO. UM was a FCS power. Year in and year out deep playoff runs with A few National Title appearances mixed in. The fans knew what they had in Griz football. One playoff appearance in the last three years will negatively impact the teams position in the eyes of the fans. That's just reality.

It was a noon kickoff (1st of the year), against a 1-9 team, and it was cold. I wasn't shocked, but I am that everyone else is. When that playoff game hits, you'll see.

No it was supposed to be cold, but turned out to be a pretty nice day. I do think the threat of a major snowstorn (if you listened to the forecast) scared alot of folks away.

Yeah, it was not cold and there was no precipitation. Can't use the weather as an excuse for people not being present at the game.

I live in Bozeman and I can tell you that MSU has a president that very actively promotes the school and their football team as well as all school activities . She is one of the best cheer leaders they have . Too bad UM does not have a leader like Dr Cruzado .
As far as the ads go during the Griz games ,I too really wonder why MSU gets all the time and rarely if ever do I see any mention of UM. I have suggested to a few of my MSU "friends" that maybe we could work out a trade.

... 8-) ...

Now that's a polite term...almost sounds scholarly when you put it like that.
