Two Griz players arrested

I'm by no means condoning the actions of these two. As I said earlier, they let themselves down and especially let their teammates down as I truly believe they'll be suspended for the NDSU game. However, How Stitt handles this issue is in NO WAY the defining moment of his career. For one thing, the guy has already been a coach for half of his life. I don't care it it's UM, MSU or MSU-Northern, coaches deal with this crap in college football ALL THE TIME. And while some do screw it up, most handle it right, and it's in no way the "defining moment" of their career.

first, I did not say a defining moment of his stitt's career, I said "defining moment of how griz players handle themselves off the field" I still feel this is valid statement, slice and dice it any old way you want but an arrest is an arrest ....it is up to the griz players, but I would be shocked if they were not D.Q from the first game....

We don't know any facts, but goddamit, we need to have strong opinions!

They went to jail, bottom line.. Have you been to jail? I haven't..

Are innocent people ever put in jail? Would that be an important fact to know?

We'll know when they tell us. Didn't you know anyone in jail never did what others say they did?

Conversely, hundreds of thousands of people a year are arrested and taken to jail and never end up with a record.

I think UM should follow the Athletic Code of Conduct, which was revised in 2012.

"Tier III Violation:

A Category III violation occurs in any situation where an individual:  Is charged with or receives a citation for a “disorderly-person” offense and, in looking at
the totality of the circumstances, it is reasonable to believe that the person committed the act (e.g., open container, false identification, public urination, underage possession of alcohol, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, etc.).

Penalties for First Offense:

"One or more of the following depending on nature of offense:
-Mandatory alcohol/drug counseling
-Community Service
-Letter of apology -Behavior contract
-Restitution -Parent/guardian notification -Suspension from practice activities
-Suspension from team activities

Second Offense:

Minimum suspension of 10% of scheduled contests

Category II and III violations are each considered within a rolling two-year period in order to determine which offense (first, second, etc.) has been committed.

The authority to enforce the policies of the Student-Athlete Conduct Code and impose penalties lies with the Athletic Conduct Team (ACT), which consists of the Athletic Director, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Faculty Athletic Representative, and the chair of the University Athletic Committee (UAC). In the event that the ACT cannot reach a consensus decision on appropriate penalties, the decision will be deferred to the University President."

Gamboa's appears to be a Tier III Infraction. Kose's may not even rise to the level of a Tier III Infraction. Like some of you, I wonder if Stitt will make a statement and go beyond the penalites prescribed by the Athletic Code of Conduct by suspending Gamboa for a game, or maybe Kose too. It doesn't look like Gamboa deserves a suspension under the Tier III penalties, unless he's had another Tier III infraction in the past 2 years. I doubt that he's had another Tier III infraction in the past 2 years, but don't know.

The arrests are very different from each other. They should be looked at independent of each other in my opinion. Kose's arrest for failure to appear on a traffic ticket is certainly not as severe as Gamboa's arrest. My guess....and only a guess, is that Gamboa will miss a game. Kose, possibly not.

I guess we'll see if Stitt happens.

On the surface that's my guess as well, I think one thing a lot of people are forgetting (although PlayerRep did point it out) is that Stitt doesn't call the shots with suspensions. It's the review panel they instituted a few years back. Can't recall but I'd guess Stitt is on the panel, but he will just be one voice.

Although in practice I'm sure these guys will get steady reminders of the publicly they caused.

Failing to appear on a speeding ticket-dumb, but not exactly the crime of the century.

Disorderly conduct-could be any number of things, but my guess would be he had a few too many at Stock's and got into it with some Tapout-wearing AG1 type.

We shall see.

Good point.

I know in light of the recent past um thinks it needs to send a message with stuff like this. it's identical to what we went through after our mess. but am I the only one who thinks a game suspension is too much here?! :o

obviously I don't know what the infractions are but by all accounts so far they appear to be minor. I guess I can see where the administration and staff would be coming from if they went the route of a 1-game suspension but it seems harsh. I feel like some are getting caught up in the moment.

two cents

 I was wondering what kind of person would pick a fight with Gamboa.

Stitt's been told what to do. Let's not confuse the issue with what Stitt decides. Its do it, or Pflu/O'Day II.

Yeah, what kind of CS University is it where the President outranks the football coach? LMAO

Granted I haven't had a speeding ticket in probably 15 years so maybe things are different now, but why would he have to "appear"? Can't you just pay the fine and go?
