Two Deep List for Game 1

Walker over Dawson is interesting.

Lincoln behind Forbes.

Grimsrud!

Only one “or” (Cotton/Fouch).

Very young team. 20 of the 44 O and D players are R-Fr., So., or R-So.

Only 8 Sr.’s or R-Sr.’s cracked the 44.

Only one position has both R-Sr.’s (Welnel/Matthews).

That sophomore class is stacked and some of these young bucks (like Lee, Gradney, Nuce, Fontes, White, and Bergen) have a ton of experience already.

Bergen is not #1 on the depth chart, but he's gonna get plenty of touches. It's a good problem to have, being deep at WR. There's a reason he was the offensive MVP last year. Mr. Bergen will be just fine.

I would anticipate that Roberts, Flowers, White, Simpson, Bergen, and Fontes are the main corps that this staff expects to be prime contributors. Next in line beyond them would probably be Williams, Ver Strate, Lang, and Deck. Additional guys beyond that just need more time.

Really interested to see how Cole Grossman comes out. He was incredible last year, and could really dominate this year. Bobby loves his tight ends.

Why Lincoln behind Forbes? Didn't Forbes start all of last year?

Yeah I was just going off the WR group. Grossman could have a huge year. Obviously anything can happen during a season but assuming he stays healthy I honestly could see him being top 2 or 3 in receiving yards and maybe even best in receiving TDs.

My bad, thanks for the clarification. So did we have a #3 nose last year then?

Yeah I believe it was Nuce

Nuce came in mostly at D-end last season. Kaschmitter was really the #3 nose. I think he was #94 last year but has new number this year. Looked really solid as an underweight freshman last year.

A lot of people are very high on Grossman.

My bad. Could have worded that better. I was just surprised to see Lincoln crack what I believe to be his first 2deep, and I guess I did not realize he would be at center. Seems like a super nice kid.

Also, very cool to see some depth on the 2deep at OL. Seems like the last few years we would have some names show up multiple times for multiple spots, and if one guy went down, we started playing the shuffle game

Yep that's right! Had those two crossed up on their D-line positions. :thumb:

Got it. Thx.

When people look at the 2 deep vs the reality on the field, it's tough because we are charted as a 3-3-5 but that's not really where the rubber meets the road. We are actually more of a 3.5/2.5/5. Tons of times we have a LB playing as a stand up end which puts the "DE" as a hand in the dirt, usually 4 tech or slightly wider. That's part of why visually it gets confusing about whether a big man is a DE or DT.

I think you'll see much of the same. The 2-deep doesn't mean the #2 named at the position is the next man in...

So are they keeping Kaschmitter at the nose then? He dropped 10 pounds from last year down to 250. You’d think they’d bulk him up a little more if their plan was to keep him there. Maybe they like Ramos so much that they’re moving Kaschmitter to DE? Ramos put on almost 20 pounds from his signing day weight to 283 so he’s much more suited size wise to play the nose then Kaschmitter. I believe Kaschmitter came in a DE out of high school if I’m not mistaken.
