Two Deep List for Game 1

Yep that's right! Had those two crossed up on their D-line positions. :thumb:

So are they keeping Kaschmitter at the nose then? He dropped 10 pounds from last year down to 250. You’d think they’d bulk him up a little more if their plan was to keep him there. Maybe they like Ramos so much that they’re moving Kaschmitter to DE? Ramos put on almost 20 pounds from his signing day weight to 283 so he’s much more suited size wise to play the nose then Kaschmitter. I believe Kaschmitter came in a DE out of high school if I’m not mistaken.

He was playing nose all fall so I would have to imagine that is where they are keeping him. He came in as a linebacker but I think ended up grayshirting for a year. Could be wrong on that one though.

My bad. Could have worded that better. I was just surprised to see Lincoln crack what I believe to be his first 2deep, and I guess I did not realize he would be at center. Seems like a super nice kid.

Also, very cool to see some depth on the 2deep at OL. Seems like the last few years we would have some names show up multiple times for multiple spots, and if one guy went down, we started playing the shuffle game

I think you'll see much of the same. The 2-deep doesn't mean the #2 named at the position is the next man in...
O really? What does it mean then, and why do you believe that? Are you a Hauck conspiracy theorist and think this is some kind of 2deep fake? I happen to know a few players who believe the 2deep is legit and quite an honor.

And despite some hot air around here, the coaches have somehow been able to back-fill the OL with more depth as evident by the number of names.

Here’s to hoping those “names” can actually function cohesively as a unit. :thumb:

If Knight doesn't start at RB I'd like to see Bergen start.

Knight won't start, but he will play. . .I am fairly certain. He is, of course, their best option by quite a bit. He is their best runner, blocker and pass catcher at RB. He is even their biggest and strongest back, while being one of, if not the, fastest guy on the entire team. . .per good sources. His recovery seems to be going well, and he took a majority of first team reps in camp and this week. Still coming back but showing he can do it. They just need to be smart with him, and I trust they will.

I have no idea why you would push for Bergen at an RB position. He is a clear nice option at slot. No need to use him at RB this year, unless you are doing some fancy distraction stuff. . .which may happen. I think Rosey likes his bucket of options he seems to have this year. Lot's of potential playmakers to work with.

I think Griz nation is going to be very impressed by RBs not named Knight the first few weeks. I wouldn’t be shocked if Knight only gets 5-8 touches the first 3 weeks. We have the dudes at RB to really just run the ball every play. We don’t have the OL for that…but we sure have the backs.

Nice article about Lucas Johnson:

What stood out to me about this two deep is the Oline, which is unfortunately every bit the liability we all worried it would be. There is precisely zero depth at offensive line.

Calm down Francine.

The next man in may or may not be the 2nd listed on the 2 deep. This is probably MOST true on the o and d lines.

Pay attention.

What is this based on? I personally haven’t seen any of the backups play. And I know this is an unpopular opinion, but our Oline was not that bad last year

OK this year I’m going to document how many starters listed on the 2 deep are not starters. It’s not nearly like you guess pretend it is. I honestly don’t get it. It is zero different than any other two deep released by another program. If I’m wrong, we are going to find out

I actually do think you're wrong, but if you actually do the test, please post the results. Cats just released the two deep for Gold Rush and I'd be shocked if any of the listed starters... didn't start. I don't think that's the case with Bobbee.
I will after the first game. Starters and backups. Unless Marcus Knight is out there first the starters will be 100% accurate

Listening to Nuanez podcast, he’s been to many of the practices this fall. On Thursday he said that while the first string has a chance to be good not great the second string is a pretty big step down. Journey grimsrud has not played Oline until this fall and he’s on the two deep…..that speaks volumes. He also said neither botner or dreis are there yet physically, and both are on the two deep. In other words if we lose one or two guys the next man up is a fairly big drop off

Fair enough. I like Colter, he’s always been cool to me. But he agrees with me that the Griz Oline is not near as bad as you guys make it out to be. I am more worried about our WR room.

Having seen Johnson play last season at San Diego state I’m pretty sure we will be fine at QB. He’s a step up from cam or kris. He’s got pretty good pocket presence and escapability when it collapses and his arm isn’t too shabby either. He doesn’t always throw the prettiest ball but gets the job done. The wide receiver room sounds like it’s going to be pretty good. White and fontes had a great fall. They along with Malik have the speed and size combo to create some mismatches and take the top off the defense. Roberts is exacting in his technique and route running and will find the opening in the defense….he’s always in the right place. Simpson is our big body dude and sounds pretty capable as well. Then you’ve got Bergen and we know he’s good. Honestly we go 6 or 7 deep at that position and there’s not a ton of drop off with those 7.

Kind of the position my opinion has evolved into: IF (and it’s a big if, watching Casey get backed up into Johnson like he’s the next iteration of Beaver) the first 5 are good/above average, and IF we can avoid any catastrophic injuries we should be ok. But the 2nd is very rare, and the 1st is yet to be determined, IMHO.

Journey Grimsrud was an all state o-linemen in high school. He's now a redshirt freshman. Most teams have redshirt freshmen and sophomores on their 2 deep. He's going to be good. We're not throwing our second string oline out there all at once with the game on the line. Certain guys will provide backup mixed in with the ones. I saw alot of positive in having the entire second string out there playing meaningful snaps. It pushes development of youth. I thought Casey played well. I've got to watch him a bit and I think he's going to shine. If both strings get time throughout the season we might actually have a pretty veteran line next year. But hey, I'm one of those guys that thinks this team is on the right path this year and it's a process all around. Love having these big running backs, elusive qbs and older TEs to bolster the TEAM. Go Griz!

Beaver was 2d all conference last year. I am fine with a bunch of Conlan Beavers.

Good for him. I watched him on roller skates way too many times to be fine with a bunch of them.
