TV for Eastern

Grisly Fan said:
I have Dish Network and so I am entitled to ESPN3 but my ISP could not connect. The twirlie thing sat spinning for the whole game. After 5 minutes I shelled out the $27 to watch a really poor SD quality picture. The only positive is that I could do PIP and show the Griz and Cat games side by side. For me ESPN3 really sucks.

Same problem when I tried to do a replay of the bobcat SDSU game, let the twirly thing go all night - never did get it! But I seem to get live games ok via Dish ESPN3!

If you have appleTV, why are you bothering with your computer in the first place? I just use the ESPN app on the appleTV

I'd much rather the game be on Root, but ESPN3 isn't that bad. All it takes is an HDMI cord and you can put it on a TV/monitor. Not exactly rocket science...

This. I haven't been understanding what all the trouble is getting what's on your PC/laptop monitor onto your TV screen. Its actually pretty simple, and the only questions that need to be asked are what outputs you have on the laptop, and what inputs you have on the TV.

If you don't already have one, upgrade your TV- just about anything you buy will have HDMI inputs. Most if not all laptops do as well. That's ALL it takes! HDMI is a medium that carries both video and sound simultaneously. Boom- done...

Even if you don't have HDMI in/outputs, you should have VGA in/outputs. I was doing this with VGA back in 2002 or before. The only difference, other than some video quality, is that VGA is video only-but there are several solutions for that: crank the speaks on the lapper; use RCA from the PC to the TV; connect external speakers to the laptop/PC.

I have actually moved to a smart TV complete w built-in wireless adapter AND browser. The browser's a bit clunky, but if you can get it to the ESPN3 site and get logged in, you're done. No wires, nothing. The TV communicates directly with your wireless router, or ethernet to the TV from the router if it's nearby. You just have to connect the adapter in the TV to the router one way or the other.

Fact is, there are several solutions available. If you don't want to try to get fancy and you can afford it, make sure both your TV and your laptop are both HDMI capable and you're done. This is the way we'll be increasingly accessing our sports and other content going forward, so just make the investment now and be done with it. Perfect timing too--you can pass it off as an early Christmas gift for the WHOLE fam! :thumb:

F**k it. I'll go to a local pub. ESPN3 is too bush league for most home viewers. Bring back ROOT sports telecasts. After all, this IS playoff time.

Mine works great, but I do have 20meg service. I use ROKU and the watch espn app. full screen and perfect 1080P!

Not working for me with charter. I can watch espn3 replays, but not live games. As I understand it, Roku, Apple TV, etc - espn3 still has to sign in through your tv provider.

I tried smart TV (samsung.) It wants to download an upgraded flash player, but samsung won't upgrade the flash player.

My laptop has mini-displayport and my monitor is 32" w/ hdmi, our TV also has HDMI, so IF I could get espn3 I could just plug the laptop into the TV.

I think I saw something that charters new 'spectrum' service is supposed to allow access to ESPN3. I don't know if 'spectrum' is an upgrade to current plans (i.e more $), or if's it's just an overhaul of existing plans with better data speeds.

None of this helps if you have < 1.4 MB DSL speed, and typically slower. That is the very best I can get at my location on the very end of the bandwidth pipe. Streaming is unwatchable at those slow speeds. I am hoping that Game Plan has a Direct TV channel for the game.

I have my table reserved for this game at the Sting sports bar in Great falls. Anyone in the area, come to the Sting and enjoy with a bunch of Griz supporters...

Ironically, I will also be at a local watering hole/eatery to watch this one, even though I'm able to watch at home. Unless it's a really early game, and/or really cold outside, I prefer to watch with other fans, hear what everyone else is saying, and have more of a game day feel.

Plus this way, I don't feel so bad when I'm not the only one sh*t-faced by 3 pm. :D

ps-used to enjoy many a game at the Sting back in the 90s :thumb:

Yeah, you're just not going to get the bandwidth you need in W Glacier. Even a spotless 1.5 M connection is going to buffer some. [[fiber could be coming your way, though. stay tuned]] :thumb:

I live in Missoula, and have Charter. I pull ESPN3 off the internet through a wireless connection (Charter supplies the TV cable and internet to the house, but Charter has to be the Internet provider), and comes up fine on the laptop, which then has a HDMI cable to the back of the stereo amplifier which controls all the inputs to the TV, and which is connected to the Hi-def LEDTV by a single HDMI cable. That's a lot of infrastructure, but the picture comes in very nicely from ESPN3.

I suppose I should have added that I could watch other stuff with no problem. It was just the UM and MSU games that wouldn't work.

Do we know for sure that the Sting or the Halftime will be able to access the EWU vs Griz game in Great Falls? How do they get ESPN3? Sure wish I could get it on dish internet! :?:

Sounds exactly like how we are set up - but I get a big fail with espn3. I'll have to keep trying I guess.

It is working for me, finally... (charter)
try this....
http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and click on "watch now"

I seem to have it today - live pool! I'll have to try later in the week and see if the FCS games show up.

I may get game plan for Saturday anyway as its a better quality picture than streaming tv.

Yes, ESPN3 is a subscription service either your TV or internet provider must subscribe to. I have Comcast internet access and Dish TV. I'm not sure if there are different packages, but I know I can view some games with the comcast login, and seems I can view everything with the dish login.

ESPN 3 is working here but the website says that it is powered by optimum when I know longer even have optimum since they switched to charter. Oh well, as long as it works I don't care and I am not deleting my cookies just in case :-)
