Tres Tinkle

Interesting weekend for the Hellgate Knights. Lost to Capital at home on Friday then beat Helena High on Sat.....but failed to score any points in the 2nd quarter of the game??!!

Capital's got it in for Hellgate and seems Almquist wins the coaching battle about every time. In this game Tinkle went 9 - 11 from the field and finally got about 4 or 5 post up bunnies in the 4th quarter. 100% effectiveness every time he posted up in the game. Why not post up all game long? Spread the court a little, feed Tinkle and let him make a layup or get fouled pretty much very time. Am I missing something?

I wasn't in Helena on Sat. but how in the world can a team that has one of the top 5 HS players in the history of the state not score a point in 8 full minutes of play? POST UP TINKLE!!!

Will be interesting to see how the season plays out.

That is a good ?. Based on what I observed at the griz team camp last summer, I think it because of the wear and tear posting up all the time. It looks to me, he prefers working from the perimeter. He is a lot like Hasquet. He is capable of dominating at this level inside. For reasons beyond me, he is not asked to or expected be primarily a post player.

...that's the problem...
...nobody wants to post up...
...it's all about the three baller...

... ...

It is because no coach ever tells the star player "You ARE going to post up every time down the floor" anymore. And the kids don't want to do it on their own.

Good thing, the GRIZ have a talented big who posts up whenever asked. Breunig is capable of hurting teams anywhere on the court. He willingly plays the post and does everything the coaches ask of him. Hasquet drove me crazy his last 2 years. He was a great scorer from the perimeter, but we needed him much more in the post. It very seldom happened. When he did post up, he did it well, and scored consistently.

If he drove you crazy his last 2 years you should have watched him in high school. Those sentinel teams that included his brother and Henkel might have been the most frustrating to watch, and surprise, never won a state title. I agree with you on the current Griz bigs, a refreshing change. Can you imagine Larry K hanging around the top of the key to shoot 3's?

Unfortunately, if Tres and his fellow bigs do not step up to more willingly bang in the paint, they could very well fall short in state this year too. Hellgate has tons of talent. Unfortunately, they are also inconsistent with that talent. Mainly because they can play soft at times.

Yes, Larry K's last college field goal attempt was a 24-foot missed 3-point shot from the top of the key as MSU beat Montana in the BSC tourney.

Big game for Tres and the Knights vs. Glacier last night. 35 points on 14 - 20 from the field 1 - 3 on 3's, 6 - 9 from the FT line, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. I like that stat line. Those inside shots fall pretty easy and lead to FT's.

He'll be a big 2 or 3 in college and have plenty of chances to take smaller guys inside....might as well practice some of that this year.

Hellgate and West will be a heck of a game if it happens at State. Glad it's in Butte. Gotta see that one. I give the interior edge to West. Tinkle will go outside in that one. Course he has plenty of range.
