I just looked, and a Minnesota student can attend NDSU for around $12,000 per academic year for tuition. Out of state tuition at Montana is $27,000.

It used to be reciprocal tuition wise. Student paid resident tuition in either state. NoDak kid paid MN in state tuition and vice versa. Started around 1970 about the time I started HS.

For starters, I would suggest looking at the cost of tuition at UM compared to NDSU. Also notice how they give a tuition break to Minnesota students.

The one thing that Griz fans have mastered is making excuses for losing.

Can we do what the Dakkers do with Minnesota, but do it with California, Texas, and Florida? Just let them pay in-state tuition. I doubt we get very many non-athletes from those states.

On a more serious note, isn't the out-of-state tuition just for a year until they get residency? I remember it being a process, so have a team of admins to help them get residency?

I don’t know the answer to that. I suspect it’s because Bobby hasn’t been given a budget which will allow him and his staff to recruit them.

Agreed. If Box is correct, that’s a tremendous advantage for the Bison. I wonder if UM could structure a similar agreement with another state. If not, we aren’t competitive with the Bison from a recruiting position.

There might be a business case to be made that doing that for Idaho, Washington, and Oregon students in general could help the enrollment and bottom line numbers at UM just as much as it might help the football program.

Weeding the program is probably a good idea. Maybe set up a section in the beer garden in the south end zone. Edibles or vape only though, you don’t want that smell wafting around.

Probably be a good idea to try this out at the basketball games first, smaller crowd. See if it brings the students back. Good sponsorship opportunity as well. Could be a nice fundraiser.

North Dakota also produces fewer D1 football players on average than Montana, at least in part due to a smaller population. I recall that was one of the reasons that the Montana-North Dakota all-star game, which Montana dominated, was cancelled.

I'm reading these posts and it is beginning to look like Griz fans are suffering from PTSD. It will pass. But I do find it is interesting that Egriz posters seem to be fixated on in state players. I've never seen or heard of any other state that does that. In South Carolina people are proud when the locals do well. Why is UM different? And, to be truthful, it seems even more important at MSU. I have noticed also that is seems this site focuses on Missoula and that is just a feeling I get. Maybe the problem is not the Univ of Montana as much as the U of Missoula. Butte once had a direct line to UM athletics, now...the grass is greener on the other side. Montana is a huge state with more older people than young, if you want to play you've go to find the players no matter where they are. DeCuire has found a few diamonds, and the new Womens' Bball isn't shy in going after foreign born, in state, out of state or whatever. I enjoy UM games but do not enjoy the "poor us" crap I read of, here. So, I rarely do, anymore. But tomorrow is another day....I personally did not appreciate the Hauck's when they were neighbors, but so what....They've done ok. UM did ok this year.

Well sure. When the two Montana schools have a combined 100+ Montana kids on their rosters (whether they belong there or not), then it will ALWAYS appear that Montana produces more D1 players. It’s due largely to the Montana schools’ misguided belief that more Montana players is better.

Coach Hauck says "we are close" and he believes we can win with Montana kids.

He has shown us over and over again for years he cant get it done. He believes this stuff so that lets everyone know he really is lost and doesn't have what it takes to get to the next level.
