Time for Chalich to start

May I add that Brady has pretty remarkable stats between the 20's, but as the field shrinks, a mobile QB adds one more dimension for defenses to consider. Yes, the offensive line is susceptible, but having an immobile QB only magnifies its weaknesses. Moving the pocket, rolling out Brady, and QB keepers are not even an option right now. These could be options to buy more time for our receivers to run their routes further down field. Right now, due to Brady's immobility, quick passes are the norm because defenses just tee off on him and our offensive line. We are very predictable offensively and so what is wrong with trying Chalich just to keep defenses off balance every so often?[/quot

One of the wiser more salient posts I've seen on this topic...sadly it appears to make too much sense to be employed by our current coaching staff. :(

How do you explain UM being no. 6 in the nation in Red Zone offense so far this year? The Red Zone, as you know, is from the 20 and in. 34 attempts, the most in the top 9 teams). 7 rush TD's and 16 pass TD's. 16 pass TD's the 2d best in the nation.

So, your argument is that BG isn't very good inside the 20, even though he has the second most passing TD's inside the 20 in the nation, and UM is 6th in the nation in Red Zone offense? This is one of the reasons for stats. It shows that people who make assertions not backed up by stats are wrong.

BG is shouldering this whole offense with very little help from an O-line, receivers, or running backs.
This sure says a lot about Stitt's offense.

We have a winner folks. The offensive mastermind we hired duped us. This offense is very easy to defend if you have equal or better athletes on defense. Scheme is terrible.
That might be the most retarded post I've read on egriz in at least 24 hours. So you're telling me we might not win if the other team has better athletes??

Ok, we are getting somewhere. What I'm suggesting is at least give Chalich a chance & not stick EXCLUSIVELY with Gus for the remaining games. WE HAVE LOST 2 GAMES IN A ROW.

Chalich was the starter at Idaho before he got hurt, so it's not like he doesn't have any experience. And what some of you have posted, he would open up the offense with his running ability.

As far as the season stats go, yes Gus's numbers are very good, but again how good were they the past 2 games when the scores were close & not when we were behind by 2 or 3 TD's. He definitely did well in the NAU game in the 4th quarter, but what about before we were down 45-20?

Again, this isn't all on Gus. It is a team thing, but Chalich could liven up the offense.

I do not believe Chalich starts unless Gus is hurt. Also, if Gus is sucking, then enter Chalich and let Gus collect himself and or settle himself down! I have said this all along. The problem is, Stitt just leaves Gus out there no matter what... He is the coach!

I think since we are playing ISU this weekend, it would be the perfect time to start him & give Gus a rest. Give him the first half or at least as long as it takes to see IF he can do the job. If not, get him out of there & put Gus in.

Why start messing with the QB and the confidence of the QB by giving another guy, a senior, early playing time? In this situation, where I don't think it's a close call, I think it would be counterproductive. If Chalich were not a senior, that might influence me too a bit. I am fine with trying to get Chalich some more playing time as the game goes on. Even the last series at EWU would have been fine. Plus, Phillips needs to get some playing experience.

BG's stats were quite good in the past 2 games. BG isn't the one who dropped an easy pass near the goal line, or got a holding penalty on a good throw downfield, or who called for a FG goal or two instead of going for it on 4th down. Yes, BG has missed some passes in both games. Yes, he has been far from perfect--due mainly to the those missed passes. Yes, he has thrown some picks.

No, I am saying unless we are substantially more athletic than the opposing team our offense is easy to guard. That hasn't been the case with this program over the years. Bubble screens don't work 15 times against real athletes, no matter how talented JLM is. It's an easy offense to defend IMO. And yes, a good coach can win with scheme, ask NDSU and all the FBS teams they've left in their wake.

I know we have better atheletes than MSU, but TG knows the Stitt Offense. I think they make a game of it this year because of that fact. Sure hope Stitt has several wrinkles for the Bobcats this year. They are going to come to Missoula with nothing to lose. This game is going to be good...
Stitt also knows TG's defense. With his dislike for TG, he will pour it on if he can.

I hope that is all true and nothing out of the ordinary occurs!
I will have lots of Bobcat fans at my tailgate this year. I have some friends that are 1st time fans to Washington/Griz. They had family members in the past that coached for MSU. We are going to show them real tailgating, a real crowd and a real ass whooping. Then we'll all go to dinner.
The Ass whooping part I can't take care of, I will need this Griz team to handle this for me and I am sure they will not disappoint!

So, I guess most eGrizzers disregard the conference record, which now has UM in 7th place, preferring to the overall, but even that looks bleak: tied for 3rd place w/ Weber & UNC (of all things!). Question: Has UM been at this level in the standings at this point in the season in the past and still made a deep run in the playoffs?

Hey Domer Pyle, I don't think many are predicting a deep run in the playoffs. I think every intelligent poster is saying that UM is a playoff team, however.

Yeah, put your best offensive player on the bench - great idea.

This comment made me laugh. Plus, BG is only 4th in the nation in passing yards per game. He should be higher. We "expect" better. We could bench the "under-producing" Kidder too. I wonder if UM or any team has ever benched all of its captains, especially the 4th leader passer in the nation and the pre-season conference defensive MVP? I suppose benching could be the only way to get more production out of them, although it would be hard to improve production from the bench. I suppose if they were on the bench, they could borrow those guns for shooting tee shirts into the stands, so they could shoot at some the posters making these silly posts.

2002, 2003, and 2005 were close with 2 conference losses the worst was 2005 when we lost to Cal Poly in the first round..................

Well, given that we haven't made a deep run in the playoffs in 5 years, I'd say probably not.
