Time for Chalich to start

Gus may be the 4th ranked passer in the FCS, but maybe not too hard to do if you throw 50-60 passes per game. This offense is geared to produce incredible passing stats, but what I'm concerned about is
WINS. What if our record was 0-8 & Gus was the #1 passer in the FCS, could we explore other options then or just stick with him because his stats are so good?

Stitt inherited Gus. I'd say for however long Stitt is around, he will never again have as immobile a QB as Gus.

I think Gus goes for the easy pass too often & should look downfield more, which would result in more first downs, TDs & WINS.

I could say the same about the outside receivers catching the ball more consistently. Or is that on Gus too?

I'd say the number of passes dropped by the outside receivers compared to the number of ineffectual short passes is minimal.

Didn't Stitt say that 3 TD passes at EWU were dropped. That's pretty MAJOR.

If your QB is good and playing fairly well or well, and will give you the best chance to win and progress in the playoffs, why would you change QB's? If you don't agree with the assessment of BG, take it up with the coaches, in particular Stitt and Selle. That's their view.

You do realize the the number of short passes isn't the biggest problem.

I bolded this part.

Why do you think if we had the best passer and were losing that sitting the QB is the answer? Why are you even looking at the QB. If we had the best passer and we were 0-8 then the problem is clearly with the defense. I am not saying it is the defenses fault we are 5-3 but the TEAM is 5-3. Not just Brady. How about people look at the TEAM and figure out what we can do from a team standpoint before we go hanging out our QB to dry.

Funny that you consider sitting Brady and have yet to offer anything towards the o-line which is the worst unit on our offense.

I've said all along this isn't just a Gus thing, it's a team thing. But only scoring 16 points last week could've been avoided had the QB been more effective. I think Chalich deserves a shot & the perfect time to do it is this week against ISU. If we were hosting a better team I wouldn't think of not starting Gus. As far as fixing the OL, I have no idea what to do.

I understand the 16 points part. Think Stitt said 3 potential TD passes were not caught (see below). One holding penalty negated a first down close the 20 or perhaps inside. Stitt tried FG's twice, instead of going for TD's. Got 3 points out of that.

Now, what, specifically, and please be specific, is causing you to say BG is not as effective as he could have been? Yes, we know he threw early and late picks. What else?

Seems that 3 more TD passes caught and 1 more first down at about the 20 (when our receiver got hurt) would have made the team and BG a lot more "effective".

From Hooked's summary of post EWU press conference, from another thread:

"felt the game was closer than the score. If a couple of our plays are made we are in a battle. Ran a double pass and had a receiver wide open for TD. We hit 3 receivers for TDs that didn't get caught."

Only one minor correction: I think 2 of those dropped TD passes were consecutive drops on the same drive....othwise, spot on.

Earlier in the season, against Northern Iowa, Reilly Hennessey came in for Gubrud to lead a comeback against Northern Iowa. Gubrud was ineffective throwing 50% and 2 picks, the coach saw this and made a change during the game. I'm pretty sure Gubrud has started every game since then and performed well. People have bad games, sometimes a series of bad games. When this happens I like my coach to have the balls to make the change, Stitt hasn't shown this for me. I doubt Eastern fans got their panties in a bunch when they made the QB change. And it worked out for them.

Don't think Brady has had a half as bad as Gubrud had that game. Closest would probably be game 1 but that's a different animal.

But it's ok. Tell us more about how Brady is the reason we lost any games and how Chalich is god's gift and it's all Stitt's fault that we aren't ranked #1 and if you were the coach you would have had this team in the FBS championship game by now

Never said any of those things. Reading your posts, reminds me of arguing with a woman.

The "panties in a bunch" line got her going.

So, I guess most eGrizzers disregard the conference record, which now has UM in 7th place, preferring to the overall, but even that looks bleak: tied for 3rd place w/ Weber & UNC (of all things!). Question: Has UM been at this level in the standings at this point in the season in the past and still made a deep run in the playoffs?

2002, 2003, and 2005 were close with 2 conference losses the worst was 2005 when we lost to Cal Poly in the first round..................

um didn't they lose in the first round all three of those years?

2002 was quarterfinals, 2003 was the first round after 2 overtimes, and 2005 the heartbreaker to Cal poly also first round, but those were our worst records going in. All were great games unlike the recent playoff blowouts when our standings weren't so great....
