Yes, 2 out of 5 being FORMER Griz is too many but since when did the program start becoming responsible for the actions of FORMER players who are no longer associated with the program?

Since it seems to happen once a month

Kent Haslam, "Once a Griz, always a Griz."
Oh great. A 65-year-old hits someone and the Missoulian headline reads "Former Griz athlete charged with assault". BS.

We agree on the problem with the headline but it is (and should be) a part of the story. Especially given the context of the past year. I don't think it should be the main theme of the article but it has it's place in the story. The Missoulian is just attempting to sell papers.

griz fans and their minions in the state press set that precedent by referring to the murder in Bozeman by MSU athletes and dismissing that they were committed my former MSU athletes

what comes around, goes around. You earned it

I think Andre Fuller (sidenote, what a waste - he was one of the best all-around corners we've had in the last 15 years) was the only current MSU athlete who was charged, if I remember correctly.

We MSU fans know how frustrating it can be to see media and society blast the university for the actions of former athletes. Hell, it got the most popular coach in Bozeman for a long, long time fired.

It just makes one wonder - what is the cut off for the it to be news in terms of ex-athletes? What if the guy has been removed from the program for 10 years, is the article still going to be the same?

Oh, I see, the Griz started it? You are not the sharpest tool in the shed if you really believe that. This stuff goes a lot further back than when you employed drug dealer coaches, etal.

Funny you should say that... That "dorm fight" you referred to (which BTW happened of campus and resulted in a girl being hospitalized) was one of the incidents that started a big campus dooh daah about violence from players including the famous Bobby - Kaiman standoff which made the national news but worse went viral on the net. All of that lead to a certain chancellor at the time saying at a gathering that an end had to be put to that stuff and more accountability for players, coaches, and administrators. Even then there was no doubt who the next president would be. I have often wondered if Bobby's abrupt departure to a really crappy job/place coinciding with Dennisons retirement announcement was more than just a coincidence.

The fight with with those guys and the former basketball player happened a few years after the Hauck-Kaiman standoff though. Also I thought that fight happened in the lobby of a dorm.

We need the twinklingGem to fill us in on the fight with Wilson Inc. and Haskett. It happened at the stocks and Jimmy and Company trashed Haskett while twinklingGem coward in the corner rather than standing at his buddies back.

Former players. Former. What they do on the outside is not a concern of the University. To make the connection to UM football and crime is bullshit. Its HYPE, intended to sell newspapers. This is like blaming the gun when some nut job goes off and kills a bunch of people. Yes, two of the accused were former Griz football players. They are also black. Why not make an issue of this, Missoulian? Political correctness gone awry?

Unfortunately this happens at every level of athletics from high school, to college, to professional. Even Kent Haslam gets it. He was quoted as saying "“once you’re a Griz, like it or not, you’re connected” with the organization."

I thought the dorm fight was the one where some freshman including a Missoula kid were involved, most got kicked off eventually, but wasnt Stuberg involved in that one too.

not the same as the frat house beatdown which tru was involved in and caused bobby his problems with the Kamine

Or am I thinking of a different incident, there are so many its hard to keep track :thumb:

I think we do have our fights run together. (it is hard to keep them all straight  ) The one I'm referring to happened in Oct of 2010. (heres the Kaiman report: http://www.montanakaimin.com/news/former-griz-basketball-player-charged-with-assault-1.1692289" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This one was another incident in PR's world (and a few other supporters) that didn't happen because no one to a ride to Deer Lodge.

But you are correct the Kaiman standoff was the year before. There were lots of "incidents" as know, that didn't result in press or law enforcement involvement. The party I was at with a certain chancellor was in early November during the re-accreditation of the Business school. There were several large donors involved in the discussion. Both retired Tech CEO's one moved to the Bitterroot I think his wife has a guest ranch the other started raising avacodos. (SemTech and Intel Poe/barrett) In anyevent I have always though that there was an agenda coming in as prez. (not that there shouldn't have been)

Stuff like this was happening back when I attended The University of Montana. Back then, the police and the coaches would find a way to keep it hush-hush and out of the Missoulian. I guess with greater public interest comes greater media scrutiny. And Twitter plays a part in this because there is no way anything stays hush-hush with that privacy-invasion tool on everyone's smartphone. You guys do have smartphones, right? With 4G service?

Bear Axed, your info couldn't be more wrong. First off Jordan HASQUET, was never beaten up by anybody at Stocks. His name was Jack McGillis, and I don't think Jimmy Wilson was ever named in that brawl. In fact, I'm almost positive that incident occured AFTER he was incarcerated.
