This is how you get a stadium upgraded

1. Has big sky ever held a FIS world cup event?
2. Bobcat stadium would get the upgrade, not WGS. It has the posibility of that type of expansion and its in BOZEMAN.
3. about 15,000-20,000 decade long jobs would be created. Then most gone after the olympics.
4. only about 100,000 people at most would attend (not millions). Most poeple that attend are residents, workers, media, security, athletes and family members .
5. Copper Griz and Bryant Gumble need to get a room.
lol. fun post. I won't get in the middle of this hypothetical pissing match but I was fortunate to attend the games in both salt lake and Vancouver and you're right in regards to attendance. people are grossly exaggerating how many people come in for the games who aren't already here.

I won't chime in on whether or not a town like Bozeman could or couldn't host the games or if I think they should. I do think people might change their stance a little had they been to the games and saw firsthand exactly what they entail.

Just out of curiosity, which side would change their stance?

well depending on how close-minded they are I would think both sides.. people on both sides of the argument tend to exaggerate their point to show just "how ridiculous it is to think a town in Montana could ever host the games" or how "those that think the Olympics could never happen here are just small-minded rural farmers afraid of thinking big".

I tend to think it's somewhere in the middle. I don't see a Montana community hosting the Olympics anytime soon. but I don't think it's as far fetched as some want to believe. and I don't think those who are so against the idea have been to the winter Olympics or they might have a different perspective. just my opinion of course.

Thanks for chiming in. ;)

I'm against it. I don't want to hear the whining about how the Olympics is negatively influencing attendance at Grizzly basketball games.

That's actually a great point. This is all a fantasy. The Missoula barkeeps would never allow the Olympics to be in Montana.

I spent a fair amount of time at the 2010 Games. The two primary differences (beyond a population base in Vancouver of approximately 6 million within a 3-4 hour drive), is infrastructure, both in terms of its existence predating the Games, and the need for it following the Games.

Vancouver already had BC Place, a 55,000 seat, climate controlled facility for the opening ceremonies. They already had a 19,000 seat facility for hockey. And they already had a 15,000 seat facility for figure skating/short track. Those venues all pre-dated the Olympics, and perhaps more importantly, all had existing uses and rent-paying tenants FOLLOWING the Games.

I would venture that building even those three venues in Montana would cost upwards of 3 to 4 billion dollars, and none of them would have a use (ability to support their existence) following the Games. There's no way it would pencil out.

Montana has always had a great "Ghost Town" industry...this could only help that industry...it seems like its been 100 years since they've added a new one. What gives?

I went to the SLC winter games and even there there were venues strung out from Provo to Ogden and Park City. Everything was a substantial bus ride from SLC it seemed. So yeah, they would have to upgrade everything from Bozeman to Missoula and update every ski hill and peewee hockey rink in the state. Montana is just not realistic for investing in such a scope of infrasture. Thank God.

EG,

I think that you are seriously underestimating the great demand for these type of facilities for the Annual Western Montana Home Show, Western Montana Boat Show and of course the Western Montana Gun Show. Not to mention the annual J.C. Billion Chevy Days.

You may recall the debate we had here in Seattle a few years back about putting in a bid to host the Olympics. The infrastructure costs alone were immense and made it a highly risky financial gamble to apply. But then again Bozeman > Seattle.

Great point on Chevy Days, Ursa. I stand corrected.

Do you consider your post Griz/FBS football related? You are a hypocrite.

Uhh, in case you're too dumb to notice (and many would argue you are), I didn't start this thread.

Perhaps you should start one concerning Dartmouth's ability to host the winter Olympics. We'd all be fascinated by that.

Could it be coordinated with the Testicle Festival? We could bill it as "Balls Off Around The World". It would keep the tourists in the state spending money that much longer.

Are those people joking? Who the hell would pay for it?

Coal tax monies! 8-)

Ha! There is no coal tax money. That "rainy day" coal tax trust has been bled down by so many trusts within a trust, that spend money on everything from sewer projects to the the arts. They're like ticks on a dog. No one is going to see their tick starve so the principle can be spent on anything.
