I have never understood why people will move to Montana because it is a more attractive place to live. And then the first thing they do after unpacking their bags is try to make Montana more like the place they just left.

Yeah, all those newcomers from Olympic host communities. I see what you mean.

It's like....who would have ever thought, Big Sky Ski Resort would be the largest ski resort in the nation? I mean really, in Montana?

Big Sky is one of the best business stories in Montana. Boyne bought Big Sky resort for a $1million when Chrysler was on the ropes. It bought the Spanish Peaks resort on liquidation for $26 million and Picked up Moonlight Basin for when Lehman was in a death spiral. Not too many privately owned properties like Lone Mountain in the U.S.

Lost_soul has made very valid points. If Montana were awash in money, you wouldn't see tire eating chuckholes in the roads, and the Legislature wouldn't be what it is every two years. The state can't maintain what it has already, let alone all the new construction an Olympics would require. Native Montanans know this state can come to a consensus on very few topics. With every area of the state wanting a piece of the action, there would be venues from Bozeman to Broadus to Plentywood to Libby to Missoula to Dillon and lets not forget Butte and Helena. But it at least provided a topic to argue about.

This will never happen even if you just looked at it from a city planning standpoint. The infrastructure to support the Olympics!!!!! holy cow, that's a massive cost up front, than to not even be utilized after the events are over. That would be catastrophic to Bozeman. The entire state couldn't use that much infrastructure after the Olympics were gone, let alone just one community.

Would be fitting to have it in Bozeman due to the demographics of the city. The winter Olympics has become the least diverse sports contests on Earth. Yes, tell me about all of the countries who participate, blah, blah, blah. Unless you have some serious coins in the family - most kids can't afford to do many of the sports that the Olympics has to offer. Skiing, snowboarding, hockey, ice dancing or whatever the hell you want to call it, ski jumping, luge, - all major expensive. Most US/Canadian athletes who participate have the economic means to learn, practice and excel at their respective sport. Not going to happen for the average kid in the US. Whenever I watch all the events I can't help but think - what would this event be like if black athletes actually had the same opportunity to participate as the wealthy folks kin? That is why I like football, basketball and track. Does not take a lot of money and the best athletes rise to the top. I also love golf and it has become more accessible to the general public (still somewhat costly for most).

I understand that, but SLC was a big place to begin with and growing with the population to use the facilities after the games and the money to construct before the game (including bribes ). Apples to oranges, big city to rural area, mormons to well...everything else.

If the end result is an upgraded weight room and locker rooms, I'm all for it.

6. The hard working citizenry of Salt Lake did not pick up the full bill for the winter Olympics. Not even close---just ask John McCain.

I see MSU getting behind this not only because of the stadium upgrade, but also because "The Brick" is a clunky venue for just about everything but rodeo. The accoustics are terrible, the seating for sporting events sucks.
If MSU could get their stadium expanded and a new indoor venue at the same time, it would go nuts. Maybe it could turn the fieldhouse into and indoor track/football practice facility to go with the weight room needed to accommodate the Olympics.

lol. fun post. I won't get in the middle of this hypothetical pissing match but I was fortunate to attend the games in both salt lake and Vancouver and you're right in regards to attendance. people are grossly exaggerating how many people come in for the games who aren't already here.

I won't chime in on whether or not a town like Bozeman could or couldn't host the games or if I think they should. I do think people might change their stance a little had they been to the games and saw firsthand exactly what they entail.
