The Reno wreck and the BSC tournament idea

If the BSC is willing to do Reno...why not just do Vegas instead?? People would actualy travel to Vegas for that. I would. You could fly in cheap from anywhere, stay 2-3 nights and leave.

I think that's initially what they wanted, but no place for them with the Pac12, WCC, and MTN west going on there.

I see. Reno honestly looks like the worst place on earth, like post apocalyptic. I've never been there but just what I see online looks horrible.

I'm a city planner and I generally know quite a bit about most cities, but really know nothing about Reno....

Can anyone give me some info on what keep Reno alive, what is it like on a day to day basis? Besides the what look like horribly shitty casinos, what is the driving economic engine in that city?

Los Angeles built Las Vegas. San Francisco goes to Reno on weekends.

The Montana crowd looked pretty good and sounded loud. Too bad the university did not send cheerleaders or band for the semis and finals....kinda pathetic.
I thought the cheerleaders were there last night. For a small crowd, they did a pretty good job.

True on band and cheer squad not being there, but the dance team is. They had to raise their own $6,000 or so to go. Last year, the band and dance team took a bus. No budget this year. I believe the cheer squad covers post-season football, and the dance team gets post-season hoops.

Well, they did a good job, represented UM well, and that was notable compared to other schools that had nothing at all. I'm not sure what the point would have been to have both "cheerleaders" and "dance team" there. They represented UM well. Give them credit.

YES.. Answers high last minute travel cost objections. 130-150 passenger aircraft allows family and fans to travel. One plane could relay 2 to 3 teams in one day. This is absolutely something the BSC should be actively pursuing...for both basketball and football. Griz football used to use charters a bunch.

Shat still leaves the problem of hotels which, this time year, are at pretty high capacity. With Men and Women, coaches and family and possible bands and cheerleaders that is a major problem for a conference like the Big Sky.

Winter is low occupancy. Just handled 16 team/6000 Class B tournament with no problem. Unfortunately Missoula would no longer be able to host high school events this weekend--just as we couldn't under the conference winner hosting of the past.

Why can’t the BSC hire a charter and fly all the teams into a tourney held at the regular season champion?

Probably because travel for the tournament is currently the responsibility of each school and not the conference.

PR, not sure how many games you attended but did any team bring a band?
