The real issue with Hauck isn't player misbehavior...

Reed and Dennehy.

A little strange you can't spell the name of your coach.

Oops, you caught him there. I figured he was lying.

Buddy, I can't help that I'm not great speller, or that you're a Hauck sycophant. Some things just are how they're meant to be.

You can spell sycophant but you can’t spell Read?

Dude is cold-ass busted.

I'm going to run eat dinner with my family, so don't think I'm running away from y'all if I'm not here for a few hours. (Though I'm confident I'll still be accused of such.)

Sad to learn that Sac State tackle wasn't for a loss. In my mind it sure was. Shot the gap, wrapped up the RB, dragged him to the ground and fist pumped like an idiot. Clearly he won the point of attack, though, got back to the line. Sad!

This whole thing is comical. Maybe Yossarian isn't who he says he is, maybe he is. Don't know, don't care. It doesn't change what he originally posted and his opinion on the situation as someone who is obviously a fan of the program at some level and someone that at least as some knowledge. It's obviously not a popular opinion on here so let the witch hunt begin to try and discredit him by any means necessary.

I for one think he made some very good points that are worth taking a step back and thinking about. But I know my opinion doesn't mean anything on here either, Oh well...

Correct. It’s not hard to figure out. Which is why this is so discouraging. You are a journalist who has a personal bias with the Kaimin and Bobby and you write a spin hit, and I’m guessing a lot more than just this. This is why we don’t trust the news anymore. You are a nationally known figure who taught for a bit in the journalism department for God’s sake. Expect better of yourself. I know you’re better than this. Right or wrong, I hold you to a higher standard than a normal egriz poster.

See, this is silly. I'm a UM alum and I have a stake in this success of OUR program, regardless of what I did with my career after I left and after I stopped playing. I lose the right to have an opinion of who our coach should be because I'm not a lawyer or businessman?

Are we all posting under our real names now? Let me know.

You can now judge my biases for what they are. Everyone else's can continue in the dark, I guess.

I think your original post was fine. Of course you get an opinion but just like everyone else who posts on message board it is up for judgement of those who read it. The judgment will be tempered by what is known about you. I remember your name but knew nothing else about you. Apparently you are a journalist which of course now makes me more skeptical of your defense of other journalists. Not saying you are wrong as I dont know all of the details of some of the incidents in question. I know you expected disagreement which is mostly what you got. You cant be surprised at the reaction nor serious when you ask whether or not you get an opinion.

I am also not advocating Hauck was perfect but also dont think he is the evil that some on this message board make him out to be. I hope, if he is hired, you give him the chance to succeed or fail based on the merits of this tenure as you admirably say you will. I hope the media in this state including Lee and the Kaiman does as well.

yeah, because none of you guys has ever accidentally spelled a word phonetically, even though you've used it a zillion times in your lives...

the guy actually sounds pretty reasonable, regardless of whether he redshirted under read then played two years under dennehy, or not. i think that is what some of you don't like about him, more than anything.

I don’t have a problem who he allegedly played under, or his opinion...but just trying to figure out why he’d lie about being a player...then again, it appears some have figured out exactly who he is, so maybe he’s being truthful that he just can’t spell the name correctly of the guy who recruited him.

So it's you, but with an understanding of language, including a shift button that isn't broken?

Nobody pointed out a misspelling that I saw, other than a "beloved" coach's name. And if you bothered to read my prior post, you'd have read that I didn't "necessarily disagree" with the larger point (though I do on some specifics).

Is it then that you figure in your overarching sensibilities, that some of us don't "like" him because he redshirted for Read, and then played for Dennehy? Or was it the two combined?

Joke of a post.

You're not paying attention, which you must do on the reg judging by your screen name.

Let me break this down for you: it's not that he's somehow going against the grain. I for one stated that I don't disagree with all of the post. And if you think AZGrizFan is somehow a Hauck apologist, then, as I mentioned, you're not paying attention. It's the bullsh*t guise under which he's posting, evidenced by the incongruence of the language used. My 11 y/o makes up much better BS, FFS...

He said he played only 2 years, for those 2 coaches. So, he would have played in 1995 and 1996.

"Two career tackles. Mostly 3rd string. Did tackle a Sac State running back for a 2-yard loss on Homecoming. Believe we were up 52-10 or something when I got in."

UM played Sac St only in 1996. 35-17 victory. And it was a road game, so not UM's homecoming game. He said he got his only 2 career tackles. The only player getting 2 tackles in that game was Greg Fitzgerald, a junior who had many tackles in his career. Of the 7 players having 3 or 1 tackle in the game, all had multiple tackles in other games, and I think only one was a sophomore. See below link.

I think Yossarian's story is crumbling. Ya, why would anyone lie? Because he's a former Kaimin reporter, perhaps, masquerading as someone else?

Hmmmm not a homecoming game....game goes to PR

It likely checks out:

We did beat Sac St. on Homecoming 52-10 in 1997.
There was one person who had one tackle, for a loss of three.
That person had 45 career tackles, however, and played 1996-1999.
The other clickable players with one tackle (not for loss) all had more than 2 career tackles.
One guy, however, had one tackle (not for loss) in that game, but you can't click his name.
He also had one tackle against ISU that year.
I can't find any more tackles for him.
Of course, he would have had to play for more than two years . . .
I'll let you guys click the link and figure it out from there.

Pretty easy to figure it out. Google is your friend. Looks like a stand up kind of guy.

What’s really frightening to me is a journalist with a UM degree doesn’t know the difference between a “role” and a “roll”.

And I HAVE played THAT game, being married to a UM journalism school graduate for the past 26 years.

The part I like about this is that you're so insecure in your argument, you think that me being a bad UM football player somehow offers me juuuuuust enough credibility with other posters (and deflates your belief I knew nothing about the program) that you're desperate to believe it's not true.

You can believe whatever you like. I took a considerable beating on a daily basis from Matt Kempfert, Mike Agee and Jeff Zellick. I sat my ass on the sidelines in those games and never came close to seeing meaningful action, but you can bet your ass I was there.

There are pieces of your story that don't add up though. You say you played for both Read and for Dennehy right? You played 2 years, right? You played in the Sac game where the Griz won 52-10, right?

That game was in 1997.

You would have had to be with the Griz for 3 years, not 2 in order to have played for Read as well as Dennehy & played in that Sac game.

Also, Matt Kempfert was the basketball player. Dave Kempfert was the OLineman you took beatings from (who was a Senior your redshirt year).

Not saying your lying, just pointing out there are some things you might want to clear up about how you could have played in the 1997 Sac game, been with the Griz for only 2 years, and also played under Read.

Concussion syndrome.....or UM75 is back folks. I'll take the latter for $500 Alex.

Never said AZ was a Hauck apologist, nothing remotely like that actually. Not sure where you got that. There are plenty on here, but I'm aware he's not one of them.

I've been paying attention, I understand how this all works on here. I didn't call anyone out specifically, but looking back through the thread it's not hard to see that it was a couple of posters that were set on discrediting the op.

I browse around here a fair amount and just never posted until recently. So I have a pretty good idea of who the main posters are on here and how they feel about some of this stuff. Generally speaking both you and AZ have good points and I don't have an issue with the bulk of what you post.

Good call on my screen name though, everyone knows you can really tell a lot about a person by their random online screen name.

Yossarian, you are dishonest and a huge and bad liar.

This is my guess. Kevin Van Valkenberg, UM journalism professor.

://jour.umt.edu/about/faculty/polln ... enburg.php

I'll give you some time to talk me and us out of this conclusion. Is your mom Carol, the longtime Kaimin professor, and dad Fred, the former County Attorney?

It may be time for you to come clean or disappear on egriz. Don't think your football career is going to cut it on egriz. You are prime example of modern day journalistic dishonesty

"Carol is married to Fred Van Valkenburg, the Missoula County attorney. Their son Kevin, a UM J-School grad, worked for 11 years at the Baltimore Sun, then became senior writer for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com. "

He's not a fan at any level. He's a former Kaimin reporter and now J-school professor. His agenda and dishonesty stuck out immediately. Funny that idiots like yourself hook on with dishonest posters like this joker.
