It's sort of a CATCH--22, is it? I say who I am earlier in the thread and you dismiss me immediately. I GIVE you all the clues to figure out who I am, you first call me a liar and say I never played for the Griz and that I'm a Kaimin reporter with an agenda who hates Hauck. (I've never met Hauck in my life.) Then when we have a box score that summarizes my actual meaningless football career, you don't backtrack in calling me a liar, you say I'm a dishonest journalist because Don Read (and Bill Cockhill and David Reeves and Craig Dickenson) recruited me, and when I agreed to come to UM, Read retired shortly after. I went to football camps at UM with Coach Read my entire life. Talked to him just a feel years ago for an hour on the phone. Absolutely feel like he was my coach. He was the whole reason I went to UM.
You know what the weird truth is? You Hauck fanboys automatically hate journalists and think they're all out to get you. But I'm literally one of the few people who can see both sides of his silly media fued from the perspective of both a player and journalist. Whether you think refusing to answer questions about a fight two of his players were involved in, throwing a tantrum and cursing at a student showed an incredible lack of maturity. Coaches don't have to give up information, but good ones deal with controversy by saying "I understand you have a job to do, but I'm going to decline comment." His tantrum put the school in a bad light. And as an alum (and former player!) that annoyed me.
You can call me all the names you like, PR. We both know you're too much of a whimp now to post under your own name, own your opinions the way I am in this moment. And so your opinion of me means next to nothing. I'll be back in a Missoula at a Christmas though, if you want to meet up in person. Happy to debate this over a beer at Charlie's, but we know that would terrify you.
I've said repeatedly if Hauck has matured, I'll support him. But I also know, having been around plenty of big time college programs, what I want or any of us want, is irrelevant compared to what Dennis Washington wants. If he wants Hauck, it's going to be Hauck, just like if T. Boone Pickens wants Gundy to stay at OSU, he probably will. The money people run the sport.
Hauck represents more that just you fanboys, though. He represents the whole university. I happen to know for a fact that Mike Lynch, Syracuse's offensive coordinator and a Griz third stringer just like I was once, would be interested in the job of UM would reach out to him. Literally the guy who designed the game play for Cuse beating Clemson this year could be our next coach if we'd go grab him. But instead of grabbing the next potential Doren, a young stud poised for great things, you guys want to go backward. It's a bummer.
For whatever it's worth, I taught one semester at UM and that was two years ago. It was an adjunct guest lecture gig, and I loved it, but I certainly haven't continued teaching at UM since. What have you done to make UM a better place, btw? I'm proud of my teaching gig, proud that I works on the Kaimin, proud that I worked (briefly) at the Missoulian covering high school sports and Griz soccer, and proud of the two years I got my head smacked around on the Griz football team. I'll always remember that flight home from the National Championship where Dave Sirmon and Mike Bouchee spent an hour talking about how we could have possibly game-planned for Randy Moss better and ultimately decided he was too good, and not of this world. I treasure that shit, and I loved being a tiny tiny part of that team. So think of me whatever you like. I'm more Griz than you'll ever be.
I was just trying to smoke you out, because I could smell your agenda and bias. And I did. Sorry, but Read was not your coach. You are a former Kaimin reporter and Kaimin fan boy. You thought you were smarter than we are, but you weren't. You were caught overstating your Kaimin case on the Tru/Swink incident--as I had way more first hand information, on both sides, than you or the Kaimin. I know more about the UM/Hauck legal affairs than you and the Missoulian do, so it's easy to see the mistakes and biases.
I am not a Hauck fan boy or sycophant. Your pejorative terms show your bias. Ya ya, you can see both sides. Nope, don't agree with that. You are a Kaimin reporter through and through.
If you don't know Hauck has matured, then you aren't paying attention. Just that statement shows your bias.
Don't think I called you any names. Just said you were dishonest, which you were on various things. It was funny watching you change your story as people caught on to you. As for name-calling, it was you calling me a wimp, sycophant, fan boy. Guess you forgot about that.
You are so far removed from Griz football, and so biased, that you can't see that Hauck is the surest and quickest way for UM to get back towards the top. If Lynch is so good, why doesn't he apply and get the job.
On the Griz thing, my dad played for the Griz. My aunt graduated from UM in the 30's. Many family members including 2 of my kids went to UM. Multiple other members of my wife's family played football and other sports for the Griz. The combination of donations and support by my wife's family, and my family to a lesser extent, is very significant. My wife's brother, already a large donor, is also one of the largest potential future donors for UM and UM athletics. Bodnar flew across the country to meet him several weeks ago. I've gotten to know the Bodnars fair well too. Jeff Immelt introduced me to Seth a few months ago. And, I'd be happy to compare my UM donations to yours anytime. I'd also be happy to compare my financial and other support to Griz athletics, the dance team, cheer squad and band anytime too.
You may think you are a lot Griz, but your views don't even to be supportive of the football team. Maybe the Kaimin. The former players in this article support Griz football. You, not so much. I talked to Jordan Tripp a week ago. He's a big Bobby fan too. http://missoulian.com/sports/college/big-sky-conference/university-of-montana/ex-montana-football-players-advocate-for-bobby-hauck-s-return/article_d17749ca-e99d-58eb-b8c9-08dcfa0c2aef.html#tracking-source=home-latest-1
And yes, the Washingtons have weighed in to say they want Hauck. They have always liked Bobby. As have virtually all of the top financial and other supporters. And, I was told that Bouchee's dad did too. Perhaps someday you will be in position to actually follow Griz football more closely, like many of us do.
You've got a lot to learn kid.
