IDK, I played slot receiver for the Griz from 1990-2003, and I have the pic of me in a Griz FB t-shirt in a grocery store to prove it.
You were cut from a Little Grizzly team. Lib non-athlete, last kid picked in gym class. Spend lots of time up against the lockers in school.

Mother wouldn’t let me play football because it’s too violent and barbaric. I did rhythmic gymnastics and interpretive non-binary dance instead. I never had gym class or a locker because I was home schooled until 20 years old

I have no knowledge of any of what happened back in the day, but I know that this photo has been requested and argued about.

Hopefully that imbedded it. If not, feel free to click this link: https://imgur.com/a/tceMUKz

A few points:

1) I wasn't there in the 70's. Wasn't quite born yet. If anyone was, feel free to pop off on whether this shirt was available to purchase in the book store or a team only thing, or whatever. I know I wear gear from teams I never played for. It would be best if someone who was actually a part of the team back then could post.... but here is the photo!

2) He has a lovely wife, and nobody on here should ever be talking about somebody's family. If you attack her looks here, you're really low. Keep your shots within the strike zone, folks. Nobody was trying to drag his wife into this.

3) I am also willing to post pictures of, but not limited to, Jimmy Hoffa's burial place, everything missing in the Bermuda Triangle, and photos of both Kennedy brothers' actual assassins. Please form an orderly queue, gentlemen

Edit -- just in case the mods missed the previous post, I am not doxxing him. He sent it to 3-7-77 to settle it, and that guy couldn't post it. So he asked who he could send it to, and I volunteered. The photo was sent with the intent to be posted here. I'm not trying to be a dick.

I don't recall seeing anything UM sports related using maroon as a school color in the 70's. I see the change from maroon happened in 1967. Does this photo have a date of development on the back? Asking for a friend.

PS The style is suspiciously similar to the Campus Rec Champ t-shirt I won in 1980, except for the color scheme.

Just like Al Gore invented the internet, I invented photo shopping back in 1972. Little known fact.

Not to burst your old college try to be relevant, but that shirt was given to the players on the 1970 team.

The rest of the board sees how hard you and your buddies are trying to discredit the proof in this photo. Keep being irreverent, and irrelevant. They know that this proves I played varsity baseball for UM. I'm done commenting on this. My mission to prove Hoops is a liar has been accomplished.

Huh? I don’t follow. How did you get one?

Prove you were on the team. You are not listed in the Red Book or on the roster. The tee shirt looks like one anyone could get. If you were such a big player, why is there no record of you? I assume because you didn't play.

Prove that you played for Dartmouth. I happen to know that there was another Jack Manning from Bozeman, MT in those days who also went to Dartmouth. He was the one who played for The Green, not you. You never played the game. You've been living this lie for over 50 years.

Identity theft?

You proved yourself a liar. Your “proof” of baseball is a photo of a tee shirt you got at the bookstore. If the coach gave you the tee, you would be listed in the Red Book. You aren’t. I suspect that much of what you have to have done in life is not listed anywhere either. “Don’t give a damn, next stop is Viet Nam.”

Yes, identity theft. From Missoulian: “ Hoops (Assiniboine/Sioux Country) is also a 2016 Hall of Fame inductee. Hoops resides in Missoula. Born in Poplar, Hoops was a standout athlete for Bozeman High School, played collegiately at Dartmouth of the Ivy League, was an all Ivy League defensive back, and was recently honored as the second-best defensive back in Ivy League history (actually 2d best corner at Dartmouth). Wow! man, I was winded and sore after writing this segment. Hoops was also a rugby star.”

Funny, there should be dozens of team photos with every player wearing the same jersey (t-shirt? really? We didn't have much but the Flying Mules had real jerseys) if it is legit. This smells more like a close-out bargain-bin Universal Athletics purchase...... A throw-back jersey after just 3 years? Not bloody likely.

It reminds me of the small town where I grew up when the varsity bball team got new jerseys (almost every year). The JV would then "inherit" the old varsity jerseys, frosh team got the old JV, and so on down to seventh grade. After that, they were sold or donated to youth programs or the public.

Side note: we played in some prettay, prettay short shorts in middle school because they were varsity shorts from like 10 years prior. Tough look in the mid-1990s. We all wore the BIKE compression shorts underneath to hide our peach fuzz.

Looks like University of Mississippi to me. Color scheme is correct.

Now ya did it, stirred them thar brain cells, got my memory working. Here's Country Joe McDonald's "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag", with lyrics, of course. Sing along time with Mitch:

Man the battles between Steve and Playa are pretty epic and always worth stopping by to watch play out. I think we honestly need to set up a cage-match style jello wrestling match with them both. We could raise a lot of $ for the new NIL collective.

I’ll give Steve credit here…..he outkicked his coverage with his wife, and has had some pretty solid and funny comebacks in this thread, particularly around the popularity of club baseball at UM back in the day (or lack there of).

Playa has accomplished amazing feats. Growing up on a reservation, getting to the Ivy League school, playing football at a very high level, and being inducted into the Native American Hall of Fame. That’s an insanely impressive resume and trying to belittle his very public accomplishments here isn’t really getting anyone any points.

I think the cage match is the only way to let you guys work this out. Who knows, in real life you may just get along. Try not to get too worked up kids, life is too short!

In another note….how in the heck did Elrod come up with this photo? That alone is impressive!

PR accomplished a lot, from very humble beginnings, hard work, supportive family(I assume), good schooling, lots of EFFORT, self sacrifice, willingness to get the job(s) done, and keeping his eye on the distant prize. If I left anything out, Hoops, feel free to correct me. :thumb:

Hoops absolutely did accomplish a lot. More than I have. And, contrary to the aggression here, he's actually a pretty nice guy from our one brief interaction.

Never, ever doubt my ability as a detective...... Just kidding. Thirdandlong has been looking for someone to post it for him because he couldn't figure out how. 3-7-77 posted in a totally unrelated thread that he had the picture sent to him, but he couldn't get it posted either. So I just gave him my email address and he sent it to me to post the pic. I didn't really do anything but figure out how to post it for them.

If they ever met and Thirdandlong could stop bashing the Griz for an hour, I am sure they would get along just fine. Its amazing how much disagreement melts away over a handshake. That's part of why I made sure to offer to meet up at a game with AZ and Soldier when I disagreed with them. Pretty hard to be mad when you are enjoying a beautiful fall day at a tailgate in Missoula, Montana

Elrod's account of events is 100% correct. From Thirdandlong to me. I couldn't figure out how to post it, so I asked for help and Elrod volunteered. I eMailed the pic to him. He got the job done. Thirdandlong could verify the events.

Do you have a generic cheap tee shirt to prove that?

CDA, I want you to know I am completely serious when I tell you that I would absolutely overpay for a team shirt from your interpretive non-binary dance team.

I'll see if the coach has any lying around. If you post a pic of you wearing it, it will prove once and for all that you were a member of the INBD Free Spirits despite there being no record of it.

I mean, it's not quite the celebrity death match that Elon vs. Zuckerberg is shaping up to be, but I think it would draw a curious and easily amused crowd! Especially if it goes down like this:
