Don't know if this has been covered yet, but how much of a consideration is weather? It's been a beautiful fall, but it could be dumping snow with a gale coming out of the canyon by the 20th...

It would start at 7:00 AM Mountain Time.

So then, they will be broadcasting in the pitch dark to start? I bet this has to weigh on their decision?

Everybody, if they come, be prepared to not get too tuned up on Friday night as Tailgating will start early! We got a show to put on! That is those of you who get hangovers.....

I went to the Boise State GameDay forever ago when they played Oregon State, and we were in line around 4:30am, started broadcasting at I believe like 5-5:30am, and it was pitch-black then. They have a ton of flood lights in the waiting line area, as well as around the stage. They did Gameday in the stadium that year, so lights were easy, whereas they'll need more outside in the Oval or wherever they're talking about putting it. But they don't care about the darkness.

Yes. Read the thread or watch the show any week. Too busy getting your Frisco reservations lined up? Don't get ahead of yourself!

My biggest concern about getting the show to Missoula is having a bunch of hungover Cat fans without game tickets who can only spout 6 words showing their "spirit"!

Lots of anger and assumptions in this post… anyways, no I don’t typically follow college game day I’m usually gearing up for the cats game or sleeping if it’s at 0700… yes that’s an odd start time. But thank you for your round-a-bout answer 😂. I don’t think you should be worried about cats fans, isn’t there a video of your fans fighting each other in the stands? Not a great look for game day.

Loving every minute, how’s my favorite 5th year?

i have gone to Gameday a couple of times in Eugene when they visit Oregon, and that start time is extra brutal at 6am. Show begins in the dark, then progresses as the sun comes up.

Some fans show up super early, others stay all night.

I don't think UM students nor Griz fans would have any trouble doing this. Bourbon for warmth. Make it to sunrise, and touch-and-go for the next 12 hours after that. ;)

Well, they are going to A&M / Ole Miss this Saturday ... lets hope they angle Northwest in a week!

will the university allow camping on the oval the night before? or at least food trucks, bbq's and tailgaiting on the oval? might be a way to get people there for the espn cameras. otherwise, i'd say put it (gameday) somewhere more convenient for food, etc, like caras park. it would look packed, with great scenery all around, and help out missoula businesses. i only say this because the oval is pretty big, and it might be a challenge to have a significant looking crowd there so early in the morning, in mid-november.

just throwing ideas out there, not saying um and missoula couldn't pull it off in the oval...

My impression is that the athletic department is trying to sell the oval, Main Hall as w/Sentinel as a backdrop, the whole package. I think it'd be a shame to give up showcasing such an iconic setting on national TV IMO.

As for the logistics of crowds, agree that it is a consideration and understand your point.

Missoula's got so much money to throw around we've torn up Caras Park and are remaking it.

"If you build it, they will come."

I'm confident that, if GameDay does show up, there will be a big and noisy crowd for the cameras to show, no matter where they put the stage setup. And an abundance of crazy signs. Besides, these production guys and gals are real pros. If necessary, they can make 50 people look like 500 ... but I don't think that will happen, even if its snowing. (And if it is snowing, what's the likely over/under on guys showing up without shirts?)

The Oval is practically out the front door for Elrod, Craig, Duniway, Miller, Panzer, Knowles and Jesse. Pretty sure crowd size wouldn’t be an issue.
