Tell me about Missoula

I disagree. El Casador, just doors down from the Wilma has great Mexican food at good prices. Their enchiladas & tacos are to die for; order one or both of those & go for the lime margarita on the rocks w/ salt, & you'll be a happy camper. :thumb:

Go to the Jack near Lolo Hot Springs if for no other reason than to see the building. Great staff and locally owned...Virgil commutes from Clinton almost daily. Highway 12 can be a pain with all the cycles from our state to the west neighbors driving but they are good people. Drop over to the interstate and drive back to Missoula in the evening for a decent daytrip.

*Edit. Another nice daytrip is west of Kalispell. There will be a few coaches and their relatives at the Lodge on McGregor Lake and if you're prior military, the Dirty Shame up the Yaak is a great place to talk life and sports. The owners retired from the 509th Airborne and GEN Carpenter, the actual Lonesome End from West Point retired up the Yaak (GEN Carpenter is the individual who called napalm in on his company in Viet Nam rather than get overrun if you recall). Several Distinguished Service Crosses and a couple Medal of Honor recipients will be there from August through hunting season. Most of them went to Hudson High and played football too.

There are several out of the way places close to Missoula plus Butte, Nevada City and Virginia City are close. Just have fun.

C’mon man. Real margs are made with limes. Use anything else & it’s something else, probably something Ursa would drink, just not a margarita.

Is the Taco del Sol still around on Higgins? I don't care if it isn't "authentic Mexican food", and I don't care if it isn't what a "burrito is supposed to be". I live in the land of burrito snobs (yes, they exist), and I apparently prefer whatever one wants to call a Taco del Sol "burrito" over a burrito.

Tried it three times, Nope, tastes like nothing. Like I said, coming from an area with a shitload of good food and even better Mexican food they won't be impressed. Kind of like I wasn't after getting out of the Corps and returning home to Montana Mexican food. :D

I forgot to mention the Evaro bar at the top of Evaro hill. On Tuesday they have two for one burgers, $9 with hand cut fries. The burger is local and they weigh 1/2 lb each.
They also have real BBQ on Sundays.

That’s not 2 for 1. They’re just charging $4.50 each. Dipstick.

Shit, tell me where you can get local beef hand made burger that weighs 1/2 pound these days for less? Hell, the nasty ass fast food shit costs $5 these days.
But you already knew that.

Still there, still awesome. I’m with you that place is great and had great specials for Griz students

Yes! Somehow I managed to make that trip by foot, and eat, in under 35 mins between classes.
They’ve expanded to Butte, too

My wife and I are going to stay the night in Missoula instead of staying in Boze patrol for the Eagle Game with the Tiger CATS, MINNIE KITTIES OR WHAT EVER YOU ALL CALL THEM. Is there a good place for BBQ? WE thought the burger place by the University was awsome, and we would rather spend our money in your town. Am sad that our grandma Hazle passed away , so we no longe have a place up Ceder creek to stay. Anyway good luck this year, pound the Vandals and cats, look forward to next years game with you all in your beautiful stadium! Gooooooo Eags , own the Sky!!!!!!!

The Notorious P.I.G. downtown has amazing Kansas City BBQ.

I also think El Cazador has the best Mexican food in Missoula. And FWIW, I think Mexican food in Arizona generally sucks. If it isn't New Mexico green Chile food, it usually ain't worth eating.

avoid The Missoula Club for its putative hamburger "excellence," which is only a patty and an onion on a toasted bun. You have to be about 3 sheets to the wind to enjoy it.

You shut yer whore mouth.

I second AZ - Mo Club's burgers are the best in town.

Totally agree!!! Mo Club burgers are the best in Missoula. Naps in Hamilton are fantastic also!!

There are some great trip suggestions here for you when you have more time. The one that doesn't take forever is the one that someone mentioned about going to Hamilton and having a burger at Nap's then taking the drive over Skalkaho Pass to Phillipsburg. Kick back there for a few hours with a beer and just relax. You can then head North and take the Interstate back to Missoula.
If you are coming to Missoula from one of the Metro areas in AZ I hate to say this but for the most part you will not be at all impressed with the food in this town for the most part.
I will say that most of the places mentioned above food wise are not worth the time or your money. I would check these ones out though.
Redbird, The Pearl and maybe Shadow's Keep overlooking Missoula for fine dining or a drink.
Definitely The Ox at 2-3 am for anything. Mo Club or 406 Burgers and Gyros for that.
Lisa’s Pasty Pantry for Pasty's and Fried Pork Chop sandwiches from scratch.
Paul's Pancake Parlour as breakfast food goes is really the only place in town worth eating at for breakfast.
If you decide to go to Mustard Seed DO NOT eat the food unless you are sitting at the bar for happy hour, it is all crap. The Happy Hour menu though is cheap and great as are the drinks.
One more thing, do not eat the Mexican food here, it all sucks. :thumb:

I would enthusiastically second Pols’s recommendation about the Skalkaho drive....unbelievably gorgeous and a relatively quick day trip. Shadow’s Keep is good too...and great views of the entire valley.

Pols, what’s the name of the breakfast place out at the Bonner exit? That place is pretty freaking good too...and much easier to get into than Pauls...

I think it is called River City Grill. Last i knew, they had excellent chicken fried steak and gravy as well.
