Stock in Gragg, Gregorak as future HC just went up !!!

Yeah, I have been to Ann Arbor--didn't see too many mountains there.

Michigan brought in Hoke when Richrod fell on his face. At 23-14 over the past 3 years, pounding our archrival the last two years, and in the playoffs for a second year in a row after sailing through the hurricane waters of the firing of our HC, AD, the loss of 4 scholarships, national investigations and media scrutiny of our program, I would say Mick, Scott and Ty, their staff and kids are doing an outstanding job !!!

When you are successful, you promote from within !!! And as buttegrizzle noted, Pat Kennedy failed miserably in Missoula, but then we came back to our senses in basketball and promoted a "Montana Man" to HC: Krysko. And then another "Montana Man" : Tinks. And now another: Travis.

How did that work out ? How did Mick Dennehy, Joe Glenn, Bobby Hauck, and Pflu work out ?

Once again, you could say this staff is successful, but I am looking for Great...

Funny thing about RichRod.. guy had success at West Virginia, failed as Michigan, success at Arizona.. I think it might be a Michigan problem. Hoke was good at San Diego State previous to Michigan.

And grizindabox, I think we are heading there ... back to G R E A T !" after all of our troubles with a good, enthusiastic young head coach that knows GRIZ football, traditions, history, our current players, incoming recruits and Montana and the region, aka Scott Gragg or Ty Gregorak.

After our troubles, we are once again building momentum to return in the immediate years ahead to return to the top of The Big Sky and FCS football--conference and national championships !!!

I don't see great when I look at Ty...at least not now

I am happy with 8-4 temporarily as we head back towards 9-3, 10-2, 11-1, and yes, 12-0 !!!

Yeah, I fail to see TG being able to elevate the program to that level, herein lies the problem for me and many others.

Maybe both of you will have the same opinions in a week or two ... and maybe you won't !!!

You know where I stand.

I am pretty sure that I will have the same opinion in a couple weeks...but my gut is telling me Ty will get the job.

I wonder which of the two New Mexico schools he will coach?

You could be right.

And I think (recent) history has proved that there is no good way to predict who can go from assistant to head coach successfully. At every level, we've seen it go either way: Assistants that look like "sure things" tube it, while some :wtf: candidates turn out to be great. My personal preference is for a coach who has proved he can handle the head coaching job at some college level. But, obviously, I am not the AD.

Anyone involved with the current staff should be gone. A losing season, a one and done, and a not exactly stellar season is NOT Griz Football. I'm not buying it. The defense has stepped up but the offense has fallen considerably. Our recruiting hasn't been all that great either. If I remember correctly, we didn't pick up one single O lineman last spring and look what we've got going now. I don't have to tell you guys that the O line is VITAL to any football program especially one that is a "running team". Yes, Canada got his 1000+ yards for the second season in a row and that's great, but didn't Chase have 3 solid 1000+ yard years? We lose 16 seniors next season... It seems the Griz have stumbled a bit losing last years guys. 2015 and a new era is just right around the corner. We need an experienced HC, not a "likely" good coach.

I am amazed at how you can overlook all the coaching deficiencies and gaffs over the last 3 years. Fortunately Haslam hasn't.

Let's see your list of all the coaching deficiencies and gaffs, particular ones that could be blamed on TG. You realize that Haslam isn't considering rehiring Delaney?

A rebuttal. The losing season was primarily attributable to not having JJ or any other qb with experience. Even with Montana, UM would have won several more games. The offense had very good numbers last year, and was certainly clicking last weekend. Losing the 2 starting tackles and the next guy up, playing with a 253-pound true frosh replacement, losing the expected starting TE, and losing 3 of the 4 top receivers, including an all-american, have severely impacted the offense. Hopefully, the O is continuing to improve and is now picking up steam.

What makes you think UM would be a running team after Delaney is gone? That's not my guess.

Bringing in a head coach from a lesser or low level program, especially one without connections to UM, Montana, and/or the northwestern recruiting area, is not without risk--in fact significant risk. TG is already here, a great recruiter, and a known commodity. Would more than hit the ground running. The others would not have those advantages. A coach like Baldwin, if interested, would be a step up from the others being mentioned and would have less risk.

I have concerns about next year, due to the loss of JJ and some other good players. Any coach is going to have to deal with that. UM signed only 10 schollie guys, I believe, due to lack of schollies. I'm pretty sure there was at least one lineman. In any event, how can you blame that on TG? He wasn't the head coach.

Getting the schollies back and getting the weight/locker room building built will be very important to getting back to greatness. No incoming coach is going to be able to speed up that process. Delaney may stay involved with fund-raising after he retires. I assume he'd be more motivated with a coach he's comfortable with.
