I'm not yet convinced of Stitt's success as a DI HC, but I'm with him on this one. He's handling it perfectly.grizare#1 said:Best thing it does is it puts the other players on notice, will give Stitt an A+ on this one.PlayerRep said:I don't know how Vika has played in the first 2 games, but his stat production is not so hot. 5 tackles total in 2 games, with 2 being solo. 1 TFL. He's tied for 12th in tackling on the team. At this rate, he would get 27.5 in 11 games.
Strahm had 70 tackles last year, 2d leading on the team behind Buss. 10 against the Cats. Never had fewer than 3.
Connor Strahm LB 21-49 70 0-8 2-2 4-7 1-5 2-2 1-4 2-1 3-4 3-6 1-2 2-8 - tackles
I understand discipline. However, suspending for 2 games, not playing in scrimmages or practices with the 1's, and not playing much in the scrimmages, seems like about 3 times the punishment that any Griz has ever gotten for a dui.
I vote for playing the best players, after the stated punishment is concluded. On the other hand, I'm fine with making him earn his spot back, assuming they give him a chance to earn it.

What has Strahm done on the field to leave you thinking he let's the team down?grizare#1 said:Best players don't mean shit if you cant count on them when you really need them!hm.grwn.grizfan said:If strahm is off suspension and is the best player he should play.

This.
Had to read about Strahm's court date in the Billings Gazette this morning. Does not matter that he has never been in trouble before. It is bad publicity for U of M and the football team. Not sure how that in some way does not "hurt the team" like the coach said.

How does it hurt the team or the school? Will one less dollar be donated because of the announced court date? Will one less ticket be purchased for a sporting event? Yes, he made a big mistake, yes it was some distraction for the team (in the summer), yes it has hurt him. Just don't get the hurt the team/school argument at this point.
Again, what hurt the team is RE's firing of O'Day and Pflu. What hurt the school are multiple decisions that RE did or did not make. These things are wounded the school for the foreseeable future. About a billion times more than a dui arrest by some football player.

C'mon TNT. Not to re-hash all of this again but the attempted JJ expulsion and the knee jerk firing of the AD and HC were enough to send RE packing. Throw in the basic mismanagement of the U of M and you got a pretty strong case for his removal IMO....

This may shock you but ticket sales aren't the issue nor do most people care who is the coach and athletic director.......... Sadly the issue is to the broader public what the impressions they develop of U is what they read in the paper. You know people like parents and prospective students.
I said my piece earlier, but -- since this thread has just kept rolling -- I'll chime in again. He paid his dues on the infraction, but the bigger issue of "trust" also has to be dealt with. That's why having him "play his way back onto the field" is justified, IMO. And, since he has superior talent, that should not take long.nzone said:I fully expect Strahm to work his way back onto the field and have a good senior year. His dui was really bad judgement and caused a bit of embarrassment but surely isn't a capital offense.
Stitt's handling of the situation is exactly how it should be handled.
PlayerRep said:The decisions and incompetence of RE's dean, and RE in some things, led directly to the JJ issue becoming something that it really wasn't and eventually to Krakauer's book and continuing legal actions. Talk about damage, and continuing damage. The Strahm dui is not even a drop in the bucket.

RE should never have been hired. The search back in 2010 SHOULD have been reopened, but it wasn't IF anyone recalls, it was perfectly clear that some pretty heavy stuff was about to come down (there were rumors thats why Dennison retired)Every other finalist withdrew after visiting and seeing the problems from the shadow president and Pat Williams connection, off field issues with the football program (that were just starting to gain a lot of traction, Bobbys blow up over the curb stomping that made the national news SEVERAL times, and on goes the list. Royce was the only candidate left standing. THAT alone should have been a warning. That he thought he could handle what far more qualified folks wouldn't touch, should have been
a red flag and certainly no surprise he and the University went down in flames. Not sure if anyone could have prevented it.
