Stitt Crew vs Hauck Crew - what is noticeable

I'm not gonna say it was a coaching issue. 4 lost fumbles are hard to overcome, but this is a bad, bad loss. Come on. Port. St? Bobby's gonna have some 'splainin' to do. We should drop to 20 or so.

PSU lost 3, so really only -1 in turnovers, that should be able to overcome by a ranked team, at home against a team like PSU ( only other win since 2016 was against an NAIA team) I agree with everything else you said however

I understand the math however, 3 of our fumbles were very costly; Sneed on the first play to set up P St. for their 1st TD, another as we were driving to score after their fumble, and Curran's when, if he just held on to the ball, the game was pretty much over.

I think this game was a perfect storm of ineptitude and, what I would like to see is all the posters who were trashing the last coaching staff for being out coached, not making adjustments, and responsible for this kind of total team letdown come on here and admit that a horrible loss like this can happen even to their demigod Bobby Hauck.

There are a few specific things that I’ve noticed in addition to what has already been mentioned.

- more consistent offense. Maybe not as explosive as Stitts offense, but they seem less prone to going 3 and out, or worse, 3 and outs on consecutive series.

- receiver blocking is better this year. I think if JLM had the benefit of better blocking last year, he would have sprung a few more of those bubble screens.

- it’s early in the season, but you just feel like this team isn’t going to have any under achieving , head-scratching kind of losses. If anything, this feels like a team that may over achieve and win another game or two that they shouldn’t win.

So many of the improvements this season are intangible and tough to put a finger on, but just watching them play, you can tell they are a different team. I’m really excited about the rest of this season!

Go Griz!

There is so much fail in this thread, hindsight being 20/20, but this post pretty much sums up the fail.

And the one from TCCGriz saying timeout management would be better...

And the one from Griz:
The opening drive of the game and the opening drive of the second half are infinitely better. Every game.

And this one from flowtowngriz:
The biggest stat between the two coaches is turnovers

And this one from mtgrizfankb:
anyone want to go through the data and compare drives with less than 2 first downs? I would be curious but I'm pretty lazy

Perhaps this thread jinxed us?

5 pages on this thread, and you single me out? I was laughing at myself about this one yesterday. Yesterday’s loss does make my post look silly, I’ll freely admit that. Tough loss, and all teams have them. We’ll see how the coaches and the team respond. I’m still happier with this years coaching than the last three years.

I’m glad I could provide some entertainment value for you, AZ.

I’ll still be be tuning next week and will be in the stadium four our final two home games. Go Griz!

Yeah, I’m sorry about that...but your post DID cover a lot of the “issues” that we thought were gone that resurfaced yesterday...but rest assured you weren’t alone, I just got too bored to find the rest...

No worries, just had to rib you a little bit. I would have called me out too! I can admit when I’m wrong.

The reality is that this team is young, with weak spots on the roster, and a new coaching staff. They were always going to take their lumps. They just over achieved up to this point and got everyone excited about the possibilities. The season isn’t over, I think they have plenty of good football to play still.

Stitt’s 2015 team responded extremely well and started blowing the doors off teams once BG came back (at least until the second half of the SDSU playoff game) in 2015. They absolutely could not respond the following two years (2016 being especially awful).

Bobby’s teams have always responded well after losses, and that includes this year. He’s only ever lost two games in a row here twice (2003, 2005, both to MSU and a first round upset in the playoffs).

I expect them to respond well, and I’m optimistic about the rest of the year, as I still think we should be favored in all but one remaining game. If we do lose next week, it might be time to start panicking.
