How true is that?
I don't know if what you heard is true, or what western Montanans consider to be "eastern Montana," but over the past few years Stitt and Co. have recruited and signed:
- Braydon and Bryson Deming, Billings West (Eastern AA)
- Nate Dick, Billings Senior (Eastern AA)
- Michael McGinnis, Sidney (Eastern A)
- Holden Ryan, Billings Central (Eastern A)
- Ben Hardy (walk on, I think), Fairview (Eastern C, 8-man)
Not to mention the late Luke Gonsioroski from Baker, an Eastern B school (who signed with Texas Tech) and this year's gem, Gabe Sulser, from Billings Senior (Eastern AA).
I've watched quite a bit of Eastern A football this year and while I'm no talent scout, I wouldn't say that there are any sure-fire Division 1 players in the league. Alec Lovegren of Sidney and Ben Voss of Billings Central are a couple of running backs that have dominated games, and might be on the cusp of FCS football, but my guess is that they'll probably end up at NAIA schools. I know even less about what to look for in an OL/DL recruit, but I haven't personally seen anybody dominate or stand out like Mike Person, Terran Hillesland and Trapper Hight did 10-15 years ago.
Like one of the best professors I ever had , Rick Graetz always said in Montana geography.....you call it Montana east of the Rockies.
The communities found east of the rockies are generally more alike economically and socially than those communities found withing the ranges and valleys.
