Spuds 2.0

Got busy playing Dark Souls and totally forgot to turn the game on (that never used to happen til this year :-/ ) looks like I can be happy I missed it, at least the universe of Dark Souls isn't as depressing as a loss to Idaho.

 Mousegrizz will have the answer for you....., tired legs. :D

Tough to make layups, free throws and a 6 5 guy trying to cover Idaho's super awesome big guy were the keys. Tired legs is a Weber deal.

Definitely another disappointing loss.

And a strange one at that. It felt like a Mike Montgomery GRIZ game: superior talent; feeling as though you’re in control most of the game; loss.

 You dug up about 8 seasons of bad memories, friend. As I recall, the capstone of those years came when the entire Griz team decided to shave their heads in a vain attempt to win a tourney game.

PRECISELY what I was thinking as well, GJ. I believe the quote was, "We're going to war". Well, it was more like a small skirmish because they lost to like 8th seeded ISU in the first round.

This game (along with the NAU and ISU games, are eerily similar to last year’s team performance…..not a good trend line.

Hey Vandal.... Big win for your alma mater.. things are looking up for the big sky conference tourney...#vandalup# 👍👍

  :P

I have a differing recollection... There is zero resemblance to the 80's teams, apples to oranges, but keep trying to divert from reality. In the eighties Montgomery and the Griz were on a fairly level playing field with the other 7 members, the conference was loaded with talent, more like the Mountain West on a national stage.

Top to bottom those conference games were wars, the arena's were full, everyone was good in comparison to today. Even ISU and NAU had their moments back then, and they were the weakest. IDAHO, BSU, UNR, UM, WEBER and MSU were all solid, IDAHO in 81 was ranked sixth in the country, and i was there to witness Montgomery's lowly Griz program knock them off.

Now, we are superior in facilities and support(which is wavering). Our conference is loaded with kenpom 200-300 plus ranked teams, and we are middle of the pack! If Montgomery is so bored to read these posts, he would have a fun laugh from his mansion in Cali, sipping his wine and stacking his cash.

Those 8 years you guys wish to forget were the Golden years of the BSC, and some of the best atmospheres ever in Dahlberg! You guys keep guzzling the Kool-Aid and coming up with excuses and diversions form our current reality, however, I expect way more!

Dahlberg was never full. FullER, yes, never full.

The rest of your post is full of hogwash and selective memory. The bsc sucked in those days as well, save for Idaho in 1981. Beyond that, what's happening in Missoula follows the national trend for college basketball.

I forget, how many ncaa trips did Monty make (and this is being asked by a guy who has nothing but respect for Mike and his coaching skills).

Also, it's absolutely remarkable how many random posters from other programs we get over here after a rare GRIZ loss. The rest of the year (or even on their own "fan" sites)? Crickets. But if the GRIZ should happen to lose, man the trolls sure come out of the woodwork to play.

That must suck, being a fan of program so shitty no one cares unless a top dog loses.

Maybe not in the 80’s, but it was definitely full in the 70’s. Was a VERY tough ticket….

NEVER full? Wow! You must not have been around then... You made my point, Montgomery had zero NCAA trips, darn good coach with ZERO trips. He had an easier time winning in PAC 10 than the BIG SKY. That goes to show, BSC was a different beast than today(you can also look back and will see how much better we competed out of conference) .

You're so stuck on defending and diverting anything negative TD, you are incapable of having a productive conversation. Of course, anyone who is
critical of TD you call a TROLL :o

I'm disappointed that we're getting such little production from our junior class--DCH, Vazquez, Owens. I thought at the time we recruited them that they were a top-notch class.

But last night was the same ole, same ole: 35 points and 13 rebounds from the sophomores, and nine points and three rebounds from the juniors. Owens did not play. If we got the same production from the juniors that we get from the sophs--and you toss in Parker and Martin--this team would be awesome.

It just seems to be one lost class.

Question for the board: Will any of the current sophomores get an extra year if they choose because of the pandemic? If even two of them were to stick around for another three years, they would be awesome all by themselves.

Yes. They have already received an extra year so you can look at them the same as if they were true freshman.

Again, my pet peeve is that there is no consistency with how rosters have listed the year of their players. For example, WSU lists Dillon Jones as a freshman, but Montana lists Beasley, Bannan and Whitney as sophomores. They are all the same class.

I saw one school list both the academic and eligibility year to me which makes a little more sense to me with the Covid year.

Wow, some don't remember "The Zoo" atmosphere. I was a kid then. Parents had to be careful their kids didn't get to close the zoo. It was wild and crazy. I remember 1 preseason publication had the Zoo as 1 of the top 3 or 5 environments in all of college basketball. That was somewhere between 82 and 86.

I think it was in Street and Smiths, maybe SI or Sporting News. The article was damn good. Wish I had saved the publication, just to prove it to some.

That is great news. In other words it's sort of like a redshirt year but they got to play that year rather than redshirt. If all three stick around for five years, this is a great omen for this program.

Great times! My parents wouldn't let me go to CAT-GRIZ games over safety concerns :) The ZOO was nuts!

Well it’s hard to score from the bench. Not impossible, mind you, but hard as hell.

DCH looked lost on defense, Vazquez simply can’t get into the flow, and it appears Owens has officially set up camp in the doghouse. 2 of the 3 of those may not be here next year, IMHO.
