Some of you posters are comical. I see many of you calling for nickel packages and saying we don't run it. what games have you been watching. I guarantee that you are not paying close enough attention to the D to even realize what D personel is in. If you were you would have noticed that the D was in a nickel package at least a dozen times or more in each of the last two games.
Another way it seems they are getting more speed on the field is bringing in a fourth backer for a d lineman. This has happened probably about 10 times in each of the last two games.
My god people. If you are gonna play coach and call for something to be done at least have the awareness to realize if it is already being done.
No one is saying we DON'T run it....but it's obvious we're not running it at the proper times.
I see them running it when the O has 10 or 11 personel during obvious passing downs such as third and long. Which is what very college coach in America would tell you is the appropriate time for nickel. When would you propose they jump into a nickel other than these situations? Perhaps heavy personel like 12 or 21 and medium down and distances? I don't think that would be very beneficial.
Well, that's it then. We just suck.
If we're running it during "obvious passing downs" why is it that I constantly see JP or Tripp going out and covering someone while the opposing offense has an empty backfield?
And why is it that we consistently give up 1st downs on 3rd and long? The only two teams worse than the Griz for holding opponents on 3rd down are UNC and UND. We give up more first downs than any team except UND, and more by passing than ANY team in the BSC. THAT is not the company to keep when looking for a deep playoff run.
If we're running the nickel when appropriate, we sure as hell aren't running it RIGHT. :? :?
