Sac State's FBS Waiver is likely denied

As a USD alum, I can assure you guys that they have zero intention of joining the Big Sky. The WCC is a much more appropriate fit, both on a regional perspective and considering the fact they are all private West Coast, religious-affiliated institutions. The vast majority of alums would see the Big Sky as a downgrade from both a prestige and competitive basketball perspective.

Second, USD is non-scholarship for football and has no desire to change that.

I don’t understand the weird schadenfreude around Sac State’s FBS aspirations. FCS is becoming increasingly irrelevant in the college football landscape and has transformed essentially into a farm system for FBS.

I agree with FCS becoming irrelevant part, I want Montana and MSU (and being super greedy Idaho) in the FBS. There are a good number of Griz fans who don't want to risk change/happy with the status quo, but I think it's shifting to more fans wanting to make the move. If NDSU and/or SDSU make the jump I expect that desire to move up increase 100x, granted we should be doing every we can NOW to try and make it happen down the road.

Do what? I don't for a second believe that schools like Montana or Sac St will ever be FBS. The Big 4 plus a few will separate themselves from the rest. What Sac is doing now will not give them a leg up when the rest merge together in a second division.

That's what I'm getting at, we need to be more aggressive in that regard IMO so we can instantly move into that 2nd tier league with the rest of the G5 if/when the split occurs. Building new facilities is a good start, but I'd like to see more action from our AD, President, the State BOR etc. Bare minimum make it known we'd like to make the move if given the opportunity.

Mainly I'd rather be with schools that care and invest in Atheltics as much as we do. Nothing against current Big Sky members but I'd personally prefer games vs Wyoming, Nevada, NDSU, UTEP etc. every year.

The times are changing. USD can continue to win 6 games a year in Basketball and play non-scholarship Football. Or they can come to the Big Sky, revitalize their Basketball program, start funding scholarships for Football (AD just announced yesterday a big NIL commitment for Football) and maybe one day down the road they find themselves in the MWC or PAC. You say people will be upset if they join the BSC, but could they really be more upset about that versus going 2-16 in WCC play? Keep in mind USD went 1-2 against BSC teams in non-conference last season all at home. I personally would want them to come to the BSC if I were an alum. Staying in the WCC and getting steam rolled game after game and playing meaningless Football doesn't sound all that fun to me.

I think they have let it be known and are in a fine position to make the move.

I get the feeling they are just fine with it.
