Agreed, people need to remember it's not just about Basketball, plenty of other Oly sports will need another full time team.

As much as I'd love the San Diego pick they most likely wont be paying for Athletics. That leaves us SUU and/or UT-Tech, and there might be a chance they won't move without the other.

Why not Central Washington? I think I remember talks of them wanting to move up. They are a great regional fit, and they look like they already have the right array of sports.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. USD's new AD has experience working at Oregon State, Memphis, Indiana, and Michigan State. All places that play Football. Just last year, they announced a new $14 million renovation to the Softball stadium, and just yesterday the AD announced that their current NIL collective is gonna start placing a strong emphasis on Football. This tells me they are indeed investing in athletics, and they have a great alumni and booster base that could become even stronger if they moved to the Big Sky and took Football more serious. I think they could be more likely than you think. I've been tagging him nonstop on Twitter today lol.

UT-Tech and SUU are already both D1 so no waiting period or financial burden to move up and have better facilities then CWU. Some rumors are saying that the Utah schools may only move as a pair so we may be forced to bring both in some capacity.

I just don't see San Diego moving to the BSC when they are more than happy with the WCC. I only think this happens if the BSC is looking for a football only school.

And as a Football only it wouldn't help Oly Sports, which is why the Big Sky has to add bare minimum one more school.

I'm thinking we might see the Big Sky add UT-Tech, SUU for Football only and the Big West adds SUU to give UVU a travel partner. Still rumors the MWC may be targetting some Oly only members from the Big West, so adding SUU adds more cushion vs losses.

San Diego would greatly benefit competitively by moving to the Big Sky. Their Basketball programs are horrible. They each had single digit wins this past season. They've also really struggled in Softball, Soccer and some other sports as well. While the WCC is definitely more attractive, sometimes downgrading leagues and going somewhere you're much more competitive can really pay dividends. They'd benefit greatly by getting away from Saint Mary's, San Francisco, etc. while also building up Football. I think they would at least entertain it.

With Gonzaga leaving the Conference they might be open to leaving as the Conference will be losing its best brand and arguably the one team that made them relevant. I still think it's unlikely but it wouldn't hurt to call.

I think it really depends on if they wanna really start building up Football. If the answer is yes, which I tend to think they would, then they can move all their programs to the Big Sky. They'll become more competitive by getting away from some of the major WCC forces, and it's a chance to reshape their entire department and university. They gotta at least consider it IMO.

Its worth calling SD, however I think what's most likely going to happen is we will add both Utah schools as Davis will be leaving in a few years:

Montana............MSU
Idaho.................ISU
EWU...................PSU
Weber State......UNC
NAU...................SUU
UT-Tech.............*Cal Poly

(* = Football Only)

Ensures 20 games for Basketball and gives other Oly Sports 2 more Conference games to help fill out their schedules. People won't like it (except for NAU and maybe Weber) but I think it's the most likely scenario.

I understand the theory - but how was all this done before hand when there were less conference member (including for olympic sports). Why is it different now? Why do they need 18 conference basketball games? Not being obtuse - I legitimately don't know. They sure as heck didn't play 18 games when there were less members in the conference. Is it an NCAA requirement? Harder to fill out schedules?

LMAO at your ignorance. Hint, Montana has won 2 D1 national titles. 1995, 2001. A lot of good all those great directors cup finishes does / did for the conference.

He mentioned in his reply to me about how the number of games has increased. We only played 27 games back in 2005 with 14 conference games and 13 non-conference. If we went back to 9 teams, we would need 15 non-conference games every year with only 16 conference games, and they are allegedly pushing to make the total number of games 33, meaning we'd need 17 non-conference games.

I agree that it would make it a lot harder to schedule, but other teams would need to fill extra games, as well, so we'd really only need to come up with 2 extra games every year we wouldn't have had to.

I am unfamiliar with the other sports and scheduling, though, so that could be a much bigger issue. I don't know.

The number of regular season games has increased and they probably be increasing again (was mentioned earlier in the thread). Also Oly sports outside Basketball need at least 1 more team or they won't meet NCAA Requirements.
