Serious post: I have a differing view of Colter than some. Dude created a career out of nothing after the Bozeman local media axed him. He was ahead of the Montana sports media curve, and made it happen with more foresight than most. I've definitely given him sh*t on here in a joking way, but I honestly don't really view him as biased toward either program. I suppose the best evidence is that they think he's biased toward us, and we think he's biased toward them.

And following Montana football would be insurmountably harder without he and his work. Their podcasts are great. One article on his site last year was the best sports writing I have read in YEARS. The one about Baer being a master of the chaos. It was so well done. We are better off for having him cover Griz Football.

From this website - https://dcportal.pubcourts.mt.gov/fullcourtweb/civilHearingSummary.do?CourtCaseId=115536

It looks like the hearing was "vacated" - I don't know what that means.

It also looks like there is an additional hearing on 10/19/2023 - titled "Reinstatement of Driver's License."

Not a lawyer...I don't know exactly what I am looking at on this site...

Colter does a great job. He's talked about what's going on with the cats coaching staff on his radio show so he is providing coverage on this, but I don't blame him if he's uncomfortable writing about it. I think he's doing his best to keep the peace with the athletic department so he doesn't lose any of his media access. I think the same would be said here at UM if the shoe were on the other foot. Do you think Bobby would want Colter coming around to the press conferences? I personally don't think so

Update from Victor Flores. What does that mean when it's vacated? Does that mean they just decided to re-schedule it?

Is that “something” his job?

Maybe I missed it, did he write an article on the biggest off-season story in the Big Sky Conf?

I’m the voice of everyone. Stay informed or be left behind. On a mission to give you what you want. This is our story. Your story. cheaper than your morning coffee

Totally agree that he should address it if his role is to report on Montana/BSC sports. There was a pretty significant court hearing scheduled yesterday, but we have crickets from Bozeman local media and all online Montana sports outlets. It's very strange.

Victor Flores reporting the hearing was vacated and continued to 8/16.

From a Google search, a vacated hearing means that the court order judgement has been cancelled or rendered void.

I'm no lawyer, but I think that is if a JUDGEMENT has been vacated. A hearing being vacated just means that the hearing won't happen. I think it would be common to have that happen if the prosecution offered him a plea deal that he is going to take, so they just vacate the hearing while the negotiations are finalized.

But that is just what I think. I know we have actual lawyers here who can answer better.

Just word play here. The hearing was "continued" by agreement of the parties to a later date, August 16. It is "vacated" from the court's calendar to allow other matters to be set for hearing in its place.

Gotcha. Thank you!

They are going to be cutting things close if his next hearing is then. I know our resident Cat fans say it doesn't matter and they have great coaches behind him, but losing your DC at the start of the season or in the middle of the season just cannot be considered ideal....

Are you kidding? The dude moved from bozo to Missoula so he can better cover the cats. Access? Ha.

MSdUi doesn’t pay his bills and can only grant him the same “access” as any other so-called journalist. Sounds like you’re making stuff up.

Truth is, Coulter is avoiding this story like the plague which is ridiculously inexcusable. A sports journalist not covering this story is like excusing dui’s. Inexcusable. Certainly not your go-to source for all things local and global. Locally global. Trusty. Reliable. Nonduplicative.

Correct. Different forums use different words. “Continued” is the most common. I’ve seen “adjourned” as well. “Vacated” is a new one for me because it’s implied that it’s off calendar if it has been continued. Kinda odd, but it doesn’t mean it has been dismissed or anything.

I run two content production businesses. My primary role for each is to provide commentary and analysis on the wide world of Montana and Big Sky Conference sports. We do not report the news. We analyze the news.

We have talked about the DUIs and their influence on the future of the Montana State football team no less than 6 times on our statewide radio/TV shows and we have mentioned it several times on the Big Sky Breakdown podcast as well.

I could write a whole essay about why this is getting covered like it is. The procedures in the courts between Missoula County and Gallatin County are vastly different. The way the newspapers operate is totally different. The disparity in the quality of the TV reporters between the two markets is striking. If you’d like me to write that essay, ask and I’ll share my thoughts.

If what you want is for me to give some verbal lashing to these two poor decision makers, that’s not what we do. We analyze sports. We will analyze the way impacts the football program extensively once a decision is made by the administration and athletic department whether it’s to keep or dismiss the accused.

To make this issue somehow about me is really something. Thanks for making me feel so good about myself.

I know it is hard, but try not to let a few angry people on the internet convince you that the majority feels that way. I have never spoken to you, but I love and appreciate your work and was happy to post support of your work here. You guys do a great job at covering the teams. I would say the best job. Your work is appreciated, and it would be infinitely less fun to be a Griz fan without your journalism.

Hmm weird how it was vacated... struck a deal to sweep it under the rug. Hopeful people won't be thinking about it anymore and accept the fate of MSU, which is everything will continue as normal.

They just got raises, nothing is going to happen.

Analyze why the D1 head football coach isn't putting these guys on the bench. It's a massive variance from how other programs operate.

Stop with what you are doing...here, the problem is what your are not doing. There is plenty of analysis to do here.

If your job is to provide analysis and commentary - you have done neither here.

But, you'll still have access....which is really the key. Correct?

Does anyone on here really know all the facts in this case first hand? I doubt it. All speculation.

Facts are coaches got charged with DUIs got contract extensions and raises.

Do you dispute those facts?

Yes, they were CHARGED. Does anyone on here know all the facts? Lots of people get charged but then the facts show that the charges were wrong. Not saying that this is the case in these charges. However, that is still to be determined.
