Is it just me or does it seem like all these out-of-state recruits clamor for greener pastures --and money--elsewhere? How many of our home-grown athletes like Janacaro, Lee, Detrick, Bergen, Simpson, Graves, Brown, Meyer, etc. are sniffing out the portal for more fame and money. Getting actual "commitments" from them means something. Love me some natives.

I see that he wants people to "respect his decision". I would ask why he, and many others, have to announce what they are doing. What's wrong with just putting one's name in the Portal? Word will get out that he's going. I don't get the "hey look at me, I'm leaving and going to the Portal. Oh thanks, by the way." Especially in this case. He wasn't some big star. He hadn't played at all. I'd respect his decision more if he just moved on, with no fanfare. The program should got him off the website right away. I assume that's what the program thought of his decision. I don't care what he does or that he's leaving, but I also don't feel like I need to wish him well. He came, practiced for a term or so, and wasted a scholarship. No well wishes from me. We'll see if he's as good as people, and he, think he is. The majority of the players who have left UM in recent times haven't done much. Toure and the punter have done well. Who else? Not 2 qb's. Not Sulser. I'm fine with players going down to places they can play. And I do wish them well, and often follow them.

A lot of second guessing involved when you make that kind of move out of your comfort zone, far more than an in state kid coming to Missoula. Trying to judge his reasoning and motivation is clearly not your area of competence.
. Try telling this decision face to face with an upperclassman that put the work in, and isn’t on a full ride. Or another student athlete at UM. Sorry I also don’t give a poop

Montana kids grow up with their sights on UM or MSU and are more invested because of that. The commitment thing is overblown, especially when the commitment from the school is on an annual basis and they will released a kid a the drop of a hat if it is beneficial.

Its just another avenue to get their name out and let schools know they are available since the portal has like 2k kids in it. Its likely coaches who recruited him previously still follow him. You also have to remember he is a literal kid, not a rationally thinking adult. I personally have a tough time crapping on a kid who enters the portal because everyone assumes its money related, when in reality all these kids are people and have things going on in their lives we don't know about. Always find it best to just wish them the best and move on. No sense making a fuss over something fans are likely interpreting incorrectly.

A good friend of mine got recruited on scholarship to play at NDSU 15 years ago. He went there, spent a year, and transferred down to a lesser program. When I asked him about it, he almost laughed at how outclassed he was. He said he got there, and by the first week of camp he knew he just wasn't as fast, as big, or as strong as even the other freshmen who were in his position group. Sometimes kids have expectations, or these days recruiting stars, and think they can play somewhere. Then, after they get there, they see that they just aren't up to that level. Who knows if that is what happened here, but maybe Iverson looked around the room and just realized he should head out.
Or, maybe there is illness in the family and he wanted to be close. But not everybody you recruit pans out. Sometimes you have a walk-on that goes to the NFL. Its a crap shoot, and I wish Iverson the best. Heard he was a good kid in town.

I honestly don't care if he left our program. I think a lot of these kids who are supposedly 1-5 star players don't mean jack. I've seen a ton of kids who are 3 stars getting beat out by a no star for playing time. We just recruited and obtained the best RB in the state of Hawaii in Fonoti and this kid is zero stars. He played for the best team in Hawaii, Kahuku Red Raiders and this team is no joke. They even beat Mater Dei this year and almost beat St. John Bosco. I've watched a ton of his film on YouTube and Hudl and I'm amazed that nobody else picked this kid up. So the future is looking bright for our RB position so I could care less if Young left. Go GRIZ!!!!
