QB transfer?

Problem is their young qbs are better then ours.

All due, Mellott is a great runner, leader, and fits like a glove in their offensive system. Park him in a more conventional offense and see what you've got then. Great runner, great leader and below average passer, which is what today's game is about for 99% of the football playing world. He might be able to make himself into one, but I wouldn't count on that.

The sad thing you note about the Idaho kid is that he seemed to catch fire when the coach brought in his transfer replacement from his old school, SDSU. He played against Montana the year before and couldn't get out of his own way. But that was Petrino, Eck seems to be able to actually develop guys with talent. And they seemed to have a real competition for the spot - isn't that amazing?

What difference does it make how he’d perform in a different system? I don’t get that argument at all. As you said, he fits like a glove in THEIR system. That’s really all that matters, unless Vigen moves on before Mellott’s time is up and they change systems. Kid’s never playing in the NFL, so not sure why this is even an argument.

Uh, did you happen to see some of the passes Tommy made in the first two playoff games? If not, tune in Saturday and see what happens.

When 80% of your offense is running and forces teams to overload the box, 50/50 balls become much more prevalent due to 1 on 1 coverage across the secondary. He’s a damn good athlete and that staff has done a good job with this offense around him and your strengths. As pointed out, if a team were to shut the run game down and force him to drop back 25+ times to beat them, I don’t think he has the ability to do it. Luckily theres nor anybody who has managed to do that. He’s definitely worked on that part of his game and that has helped to take advantage when those opportunities have opened up. That will be the difference between last year and this year for you guys.

I’ll say this about Tommie Touchdown: He’s a terrific system QB in a unique system, and as such, he’s probably safe from the portal. Tommie Frazier/Eric Crouch come to mind.

It’s almost as if some of these kids pick a school and system based on their athletic skill set. :o

I was expounding on the notion that THEIR QB's were better. I don't think either of those guys is significantly more talented than Britt. Better coaching, better understanding & utilization of their skills, no doubt.

Placing your players in a position to succeed is called great coaching. . If Mellott was Griz he maybe would touch the ball maybe 3 times a game instead of the 50 he does in the Cat's offense.

Exactly, Vigen doesn’t try to cram square pegs into round holes. One could argue is the coaching staff utilizing his skills, or did they recruit him because his skills fit THEIR system? We’ll never know….but we DO know that if Mellott was a Griz he’d have been riding the bench playing 3rd string safety behind Robbie last year.

Just like Mellott did last year for the entire season. Vigen didn't know what he had til he had to play him. And then he went out and got a transfer that could throw (at least better) after the Natty to improve at that position. Hell even Don Read, (who was 10-0 against the cats) whiffed on Dickenson until he had to play him. Let's just agree he was smart enough to give the guy a chance to play when he was forced into it.

Just heard from a players parent, Britt is leaving. Rosie brought in a drop down and Britt is gone.

I knew this after the SEMO game, posted it, and predictably slammed by the same deniers who don't believe anyone except mthoopsfan has an insider info.

I’ll be sad to see Britt go (if true) but at the same time I’ll be pretty excited if it’s FBS QB who was a 4 star in Tuttle that pushed him out. If you don’t want to be a Griz then go see if the grass is greener on the other side.

Similar to when Bobby brought in sneed and pushed out Jensen. Things worked out pretty well for the Griz under Sneed. Jensen never did much after that unfortunately.

Any drop down QB with some accolades like Tuttle should excite the fan base. The game at this level will be very easy for him.

The dude was a backup for 3 years on a team that went 2-7 and 6th in conference.... i am guessing he should have been at this level all along.... but them again, 6th in the conference is a pretty comfortable spot for the Griz....

Much better runners, but that’s not really the point.

This level? You say this like he's stepping into a high school junior varsity program. Not every drop down turns out to be God's gift to the FCS.

So which is it? Did he say he was leaving right after the SEMO game or just now because there is apparently a new QB on the way? not seeing either of you were wrong, but not sure the statements both add up.

Yeah because it’s worked out so great for us every other time this staff has done that. As long as Rosey is our OC I won’t be excited.

If Britt was entering the portal, he would have already. Don't feed the trolls.

Keep a close eye on the portal Griz Addict. Perhaps a certain coach is trying to get him to stay and won’t update the portal.

Doesn’t the player enter and update the portal?

No. The player provides the school with a written request, and they enter the players name into the portal on his behalf.
