Have we scored in the second half other than against CSU? There was a time when you looked forward to the second half because the Griz would adapt, change, beat down and dominate. Not anymore. We better do heavy damage in the first half and then hold on for dear life. This staff's ability to adapt, change and motivate has me seriously concerned. I pedict two more losses, do I need to say who they will be?
Well for the sake of this game, it was over at the half, so the need to adapt and "win it" yesterday wasn't there.
I pulled the box score, the Griz have scored a total of 31 points in the 3rd qtr and 13 points in the 4th qtr this season. The CWU game they scored 14 points in the 3rd and 0 in the 4th. So they've put up points in the 2nd half actually in all games but the NDSU game.
Stats are great, they rarely tell a story, but can confirm who evers story is being told. So tell us about the first 12 minutes of the 2nd quarter.........
Was the best job done the third and fourth utilizing a game situation to work things out or did the kids who came here to play football get screwed by hand off after handoff? I'm not talking about running up the score. I'm talking about letting the kids play ball and the fans watch it.
Did you ever stop and think maybe the issue was also execution and not playcalling? You say all they did was hand off the ball in the 2nd qtr. I went and checked the official play by play log.
In the 2nd qtr;
1st possession, run, pass, run, punt
2nd possession, run, pass, pass and interception
3rd possession, run, run, run, pass for a TD
So technically before the TD drive in the 2nd qtr the Griz passed 3 times and rushed 3 times. Add in the drive... Where you know... They scored a TD, they did go more run heavy but it was efficient bc it wound up in a score.
If you objectively look at the 2nd qtr what I notice is that UNC held the ball for about 9 1/2 of the total 15 minutes. They ran 24 plays while Montana ran 13 total.
Additionally UNC has one if the worst rushing defenses in the conference and one of the better pass defenses, including the most forced interceptions of any team in the conference. This was a team that showed it could be beat on the ground but could make teams pay if they go to the air too much.
2nd half (like I've already said) was fairly flat. Didn't like that. However this is a common practice of Delaney and his staff. Regardless the amount of time in the game, if they're up by 4 or more scores it's going to go uber conservative.
