Poor kaimin paper

This might be one of our longest running threads.. wow. Finally racehorsewilly chimes in with a decent post!

Get off your high horse and man up and talk to the Kaimin. You don't see Jeff Fisher or any respectable coach in the NFL doing that or better yet dropping an F-bomb to reporters. It speaks volumes about your class and character. You are just the coach of the Montana Grizzlies. It's just the game of football, there is way more to life that your football team. You can keep winning but doing things like this isn't going to get you many fan points. Thanks for making it easier for me to sit up in my tree stand or lay in a field for geese on Saturday mornings instead of watching your GODS of the university play football. As I will not attend another game that you coach due to your childish antics you dirtbag.

So long farwell enjoy your Saturdays...you will be missed or not...

I think the whole episode is pretty simple.. The kaimin is a newspaper that reports what it feels is newsworthy...Bobby Hauck is a coach who has no obligation to read their paper or even acknowledge they exist... The kiamin wrote a story that Bobby didn't like, and they now think he owes them something?? This is a wakeup call to the "student reporters etc", because real life is this way. Speak your mind, but don't expect favors from those who disagree...Wipe the tears and accept life.....

I want to make sure everyone reads how simple this whole thing is...Great post racehorse :D

Is it just me? Or does 2 football players beating up a guy until he is unconscious (then kicking him in the head over and over) justify a new story for the Kaimin? Hauck just didn't want more of his Thuggery getting out to the media. Now it has exploded onto the National scene. Great job Hauck, make yourself bigger than your team and now you have your team involved in it. That is GREAT LEADERSHIP!

Just win baby!

Aren't Griz fans finally getting ashamed of having UM's name drug through the mud 2-3 times a year because of the football team?

Just win baby!

Great job Kaimin ... keep doing your job. It is good to know some newspapers will run VALID news when others will not (i.e. MIssoulian). People in Missoula need to know the facts.

O'day's cute little puppy on a leash has once again pooped on someone's lawn.

Just think. The coaches used to despise eGriz and all the rumor-mongering and ill-informed posts. Now, the Kaimen is worse. It is the bad guy (or gal) in their eyes.

eGriz is moving up!

IMHO, the Kaimen did have a right to print a story about the fight. They also could have been less childish and arrogant about it and written a much less biased story. Bobby could have been less childish and arrogant with his responses and attitude.

Such is life. It is time for both to move on. If they ask a question that he likes, he should answer it - and the players should too. If he doesn't like the question, he can simply say, "No comment", and leave it at that. Nobody gets everything they want.

I think that Obama should invite both sides over to the White House to discuss this over a glass of grape juice. (We don't want to encourage drinking among college students)

If Obama is not available...

maybe Governor Schweitzer...

or Missoula Mayor Engen...

or President Dennison...

Mick?

The father of the victim approved of the punishment, then so do I. It is time to move on.

Since I was in school, which was a LONG time ago, the Kiamin has tried very hard to have an edge to it. It is kind of like the kid we all knew in high school who worked a little too hard to be "cool". It has never "reported" the news. It has inserted its edge into every story they have ever done. It is the same with its editorials, columns, etc. Hell, even the ads. I don't think it is much different from any other student newspaper in the country.

Unfortunately, it has a lot more in common with Fox news than it does the NYT. The Independent is similar, but makes no bones about what it is.

I guess "shock and awe" is more important than accuracy and completeness. On the other hand, if people are talking about it, I guess they are doing their job.

apparently there's been another unsavory incident involving a football player. it's probably something that would blow over, but given the current climate i would imagine that the kaiman will attempt to dig into it.

Actually, it's not that simple.
It might have been, but the Kaimin has raised the bar.
Their attempt to embarrass the athletic department and coach Hauck, by publishing a deliberately inciteful edition of the Home-coming game-day program was designed to "up the ante". I don't think it had the intended effect. Now the sword has been taken up by a Missoulian reporter (who has ties to the Kaimin) and consequently the story has found its way to national media.
The problem is not that the story lives on.....the problem is that public opinion is being formed based on the print media's side of the story, sans relevant facts that might offer some justification for Hauck's attitude and response.

Do you KNOW the facts, or are you basing your opinion on what you have read (or worse, a personal agenda based on your dislike of everything Griz?). How do you know what Hauck wants? What qualifies you to identify great leadership? Tell us about your accomplishments, the people you lead, and the outstanding group performance that has resulted from YOUR leadership....just so we know that we hearing from someone qualified to judge.

Yes they do. Too bad they're not getting ALL the facts.

All that anyone needs to know, is that ALL the parties INVOLVED in the incident, are satisfied with the way it was resolved.
Unfortunately, critical reading and critical thinking, seem to be beyond the capability of many.

I find this line of thinking to be pretty interesting. The gist of it is that the Kaimin hasn't reported all the facts. Well....the person who might have 'relevant facts' is Bobby Hauck, and he ain't talking. I guess I don't understand how one can get angry with the Kaimin for not reporting the coaches side of the story when the coach won't share his side of the story. I'm certain the Kaimin went to great length to get the coaches comments for the story, and I'm certain he choose not to give them. Thus, the Kaimin has to report the story based on facts that they were able to uncover.

This whole episode is case study in terrible public relations and media relations. The whole thing could have been avoided with a simple 'Players violated team rules, we've handled it, no further comment, thanks.'
